18 (23) This is another sleeper playoff team should everyone get healthy for an extended period of time.

20 (23) The way Wiz season has started, and given how Golden State's season has started, it probably won't be long before Warriors ask for Jamison, Arenas and Hughes to come back.

15 (23) Steve Blake (offseason ankle surgery) returns this week, and the schedule looks favorable. Their next nine foes are each under .500, and they don't play a team with a winning record until Dec. 13.

We're still a sleeper team which is good cause teams will still underestimate us. Nobody is going to take us serious until we seperate ourselves from the teams we're beating. The media's natural reaction is to not take the Wiz seriously, they think we're overachieving even though our talent level is top 5 in the East. Their trained to think that Kwame is a bust and that he won't make any impact when he gets back. With more wins will come more respect. Eventually ESPN, the media, and even the fans are going to have to look at the standings and recognize.
With our history I guess you can't blame the skeptics. It will be that much sweeter when we prove em wrong. How sweet will it be to watch Tim Legler being forced to talk about the Wizards in a positive note?
I'm glad we're not getting that much respect cause it might go to the players heads and they might lose some of the hunger. Arenas/Hughes/Jamison are all underrated and unheralded. Their probably the highest scoring trio in the league. Nobody wants to talk about Hughes leading the league in steals or Jamison playing like the best forward the East. Just keep on getting the wins, and the respect will come. We keep winning and Jamison will not only make the All-Star team but he'll make an All-NBA team also.
If Cleveland and Orlando lose tonight the Wiz are 3rd in the conference. Meanwhile ESPN will keep badgering on how Orlando is the surprise team of the East.
Just keep winning, before you know it we'll have some nationally televised games in the second half of the season.

Just a quick note off of Shanghai's post -- our three guys are not quite the highest scoring trio, but they're darn close. Here's how things look ...
Phoenix (63.1) -- Stoudemire 28.0, Marion 18.9, Nash 16.2
Indiana (62.5) -- Artest 24.6, O'Neal 22.6, Jackson 15.3
Washington (62.4) -- Jamison 24.1, Arenas 19.9, Hughes 18.4
Seattle (60.6) -- Allen 25.2, Lewis 21.0, Daniels 14.4
Cleveland (60.2) -- James 25.7, Ilgauskas 18.9, McInnis 15.6
Indiana is effectively knocked out of this, so we're second by 0.7 points behind Phoenix. They have the leading scorer in the league on their team, so that offers some help

More on topic, here's a look at the east's potential playoff contenders on the various power rankings:
Miami (3.5)
Detroit (8.5)
Cleveland (11.5)
Orlando (12)
Indiana (13.8)
Washington (17)
Boston (18.8)
New York (19.3)
Philadelphia (21.0)
Toronto (21.0)
Milwaukee (23.3)
Looks like a few groups have been formed. I'd say that looking at our ranking, we're leading the "not a surefire playoff team, but competing for the last few spots" group. These rankings can obviously change like the wind, but it's still interesting to see where these guys view us at in the early going. I'd be willing to bet that the fact that we are Washington will prevent them from rating us too high this early. Just waiting for the screwup, the injury, the whatever.

Re: Wizards up to 15th in NBA power rankings
I agree that the Magic are overrated at #8, but I still think they should be ahead of the Wizards by a couple spots.

I disagree we spanked the Magic head to head. I think we're better the Magic have more name recognition with GHill and Francis and Howard we have better players.
We should be ahead though at least one spot.

I think they should be neck and neck. If the Magic are ahead 7 spots next week I'd be dissapointed.

I don't have a problem with Orlando being ahead of us, but the gap should be less. If they're the 8th ranked team, we shouldn't be any lower than maybe 11th or so. If we're the 15th ranked team, they should be no better than around 12th. Doesn't mean they have to be; it could be closer than that.
Just to see how the various rankings view us:
NBA: Orlando 8th, Washington 15th
ESPN: Orlando 13th, Washington 20th
CBS: Orlando 15th, Washington 18th
SI: Orlando 12th, Washington 15th
Drop the ranking furthest from the average for both, and you get 13.3 for Orlando and 16.0 for Washington. I'd consider that to be satisfactory for the moment.
