Jarvis Hayes - Should He Play?

I've mentioned it the past few game threads, but am I the only one who thinks we'd be better simply not playing this guy? He has never been a good or even above average defender, and his so-called strength -- offense -- is awful.

He's played in all twenty games so far, and has attempted 8 or more shots in 14 of them. I'm using 8 because I think that's enough to say he played a good sized role in the offense. In those 14 games, he has only broken the 40% barrier four times (including only once over 50%). Three point shooting is even worse; he shoots 2 a night, yet only makes one every other game. I'd feel better with almost anyone else taking his 10 shots per game.

Returning injured players has made his minutes come down from 32 per game in November to 23 a game in December, but I don't think that's enough. I think we should have Hayes in the same type of rotation as we have Peeler in currently -- playing single digits on most nights, bumped up a bit when he's playing well. The left over minutes can be given to Kwame (who I'm hoping will start getting 30+ any game now), JJ, or Peeler.

If anyone can point me to things Hayes does on a consistent or even semi-frequent basis that helps rather than hurt the team, I'd love to hear them. I feel like I spend 95% of the time he's on the floor questioning why JJ or Kwame isn't in instead; it'd be great to not have to do that anymore.

Hayes isn't single-handedly responsible for any of our problems this season or anything like that. However, he rarely plays what I'd consider to be a good game, and he just as rarely is called out for it afterwards. It's as if he does just enough to negatively impact us while he's out on the floor, but not quite enough for everyone to stand and take notice.

Jarvis Hayes he should play but we can't have an offense that features him off the bench when kwame comes in the damn game. All Jarvis did was jack up shots.

We called very few post-ups for kwame I just don't understand it.

Kwame could help on the block.

Jarvis is one dimensional. He's more valuable than JJ though.

But I agree with your premise, MJG.

Fixed the thread title to better fit with what I'm trying to say. General point is that I'd prefer to see him as a 10th-11th man type, not that I think he shouldn't play period.

I think this is the biggest problem I have. He is very one dimensional, and it's a dimension that we have little use for. Half the teams in the league would probably love to have Hayes as a normal rotation guy, but I don't think we're part of that group.

I think he should become someone like Eric Piatowski. Just come in hit three. Sit on the bench. Now, that shot of his really looks ugly this year...
