Official Thread: Wiz @ Spurs 12/21/2002

We get a playoff team here in the Spurs. They will be playing us after they get the Kings on National TV on Thursday. Overall they have been a little of a disappointment.

When: Saturday, Dec. 21 8:30 pm
Where: at Spurs
TV: DTV , WB50/CN8

The next 2 games for the Wiz are going to be tough First they go to San Antonio then they go to Dallas. If they can win 1 of 2 I'll be happy and if they win 2 of 2 it's on

I agree with you Wizards1. I think this is the one to get also. I don't like our matchups with Dallas.

They have a chance to beat Dallas if they can hold the ball and play smart basketball (which MJ does). The key is not to let Dallas get into a running game where Nash and Finley can do damage and take over the game.

I think we get the spurs game also. Our perimeter will have an advantage. And I think Kwame, Brendan, Laet and alittle bit of Oak can keep Duncan in the building. If we can keep Duncan at around 25 and keep Parker under control we win this one. Parker has been playing really well the last 4 games so Hughes's defense will be key.

We won't win the Mavs game, at home their energy is unreal and our young guys may get rattled. They have an excellent zone defense that seems to be more effective at home.

On a side note I was watching some NBDL and I saw that Bobby Simmons and Rod Grizzard are on the same team. Simmons was playing really well. Grizzard looked to be a little out of sorts, taking bad shots making bad decisions. The thing that stuck out was how long Grizzard was he's a legit 6'8 and may get another shot in the league.

Don't look now, but the Wiz have the 8th seed as of now!

I knew it was just a matter of time before the Wiz got into playoff contention. Now they have a big task, playing 2/3 of the Texas Triangle!

I can see the Wiz beating the Spurs, who seem to be out of sync from the games I've seen.

As for my Mavs, they "play to win" at home, something they need to do when they face the champions at Staples, where they seemingly play to "not lose"!

I'll go with the Spurs. Duncan will prove to be too much down the stretch.

I am going to go with the Wizards. I think the guys have a certain swagger that will allow them to split the Texas games. I don't think they have it yet to beat the Mavs so I am going to go with the Spurs.

Haywood has really stepped it up the past few games and it definitely shows. People are quick to count him out when he is doing poorly, but he has truly been outstanding and his defense is a reason why we are getting good fastbreak opportunities and some flow on offense as teams are not able to press us as much.

Ok. Let me rethink this and get back to a prediction. I just watched the Spurs and Sacremento play.

I think the Wiz win. Spurs have been up and down all year.

Hey guys, i'm new to this board

Well my prediction posts are always about how we've played recently moreso than what the outcome might be.

I watched the Sacremento/SA game and honest to god SA didn't contribute much to defense as people think, they did have a few good defensive stops but the Kings couldn't make a shot in some stretches and they still only lost by a basket.
Tim Duncan is a very good player but the Wizards can live with Duncan going for 25 Pts 10 Reb 3 Blks, I think Michael Jordan needs to bring the scoring attitude once again because thats how you're going to beat SA, they don't play Zone D much but rely heavily on TD and DRob to back up the smaller guys and jump up for a block and thats been paying off very well, but from what i noticed is 80% of the time we will get open shots and its just up to us to make them, the Kings had about 11 WIDE OPEN 3 pointers but they weren't shooting good or they would have beaten the Spurs by a good 15 points.
The Key to beating a team like the Spurs/Dallas is Ball movement, good screens and most of all match the intensity, if the Wizards can play OFFENSIVLY as well as they have been against the Hawks and Memphis i believe we have a huge chance of winning due to the fact that SA don't have many offensive powers and might not be able to score 95 + pts.
Jordan and Stackhouse will have to create for Kwame/Laettner and Hughes will have to step up big since Tony Parker can't defend bigger PG.

Just the presense of Duncan and Robinson in the middle means a lot of shots that might normally be tried are afterthoughts.

Welcome to the board as well.

I'll take the Spurs in this one.

and in case I miss the Mavericks thread

I'm going out on a limb and taking the Wizards in the upset at Dallas. (anyone else notice they are on a 72 win pace?)

I'm going to pick the Spurs in this one ... BUT the Wiz have a chance to take this one ... If they continue to play the way they have in their streak (Jordan and Stack scoring well ... good team defense ... somebody other than Jordan and Stack scoring ex more Hughes, Late, Kwame ...etc) Competitive game ... 95-92 Spurs ... but i think a cpl bounces go the Wiz way and they win this one ....
