Larry Hughes has been better than advertized. At the very start he was sort of shaky with the turnovers and indecisiveness but now he's playing under control and steady every night. I was critical of him but now have to admit that his defense, scoring and his surprising rebounding has been impressive. I think we may have gotten a huge bargain with him and he's still really young. I'm glad we got him instead of Billups who's doing okay its just I like Hughes's ability alittle more. We haven't really given up a big game by the opposing pg's all season when he's been in the line-up. Credit goes to Collins also for how he's used Hughes not in a play making role but in a natural scoring role coming off screens making himself available to shoot. His ability in transition has been tremendous also. He has been a pleasant surprise to me and it seems like he may finally have found his niche in this league.
Ever since he got over his injury that he was very quiet about he has been fantastic. Even though he is no the typical point guard he certainly has a point guard mentality. He stays very cool under pressure and knows when to run and when to set things up. He works very well with Lue in the game also. I couldn't be more pleased.
Actually his solid play is the thing that has me thinking about positive options in case we lose Stack next year.
I'm going to go back and pull the thread when we signed him to see what we were saying at the time. Always fun.
The good news about Larry is that he hasn't even hit his potential yet. This is a guy would could average 16, 7, and 7 by next season if he keeps working on his game.
Looked back at that post Northeast that you PM'd me about thats pretty interesting about what everyone said about Hughes. BCH i basically forgot you made that post but I was more on the fence about Hughes then but these last 3 games have really cemented his impact in my mind. He's playing really effortlessly , its good to see him settling in. What a bargin. Maybe the best FA signing of the summer.
