FoxSports: Wizards have found the right Jordan to lead them
Quote:
Back when he was wearing plaid pants and polyester, Eddie Jordan, as a freshman, was the point guard on the best Rutgers basketball team in school history, one that made it to the Final Four. He racked up a school-best 585 assists, keeping stars such as Phil "The Thrill" Sellers and "Jammin' " James Bailey happy by keeping the ball moving and keeping them involved.
Back then, Jordan had a head of bushy black hair and was trim enough to have the nickname "Fast Eddie." Now, almost 30 years later, Jordan is coaching the Wizards — the hair and polyester are gone, and a few extra pounds around the waist make Fast Eddie look more like Moderately Mobile Eddie.
But there's one thing that hasn't changed about Jordan since his days as a Scarlet Knight: He still sees moving the ball and checking egos as the keys to successful basketball.
"I have seen him from the time he was a high school senior right up to today," says Tom Young, Jordan's coach at Rutgers, who now serves as an assistant with the Wizards. "And even in high school, he understood basketball and people. He knows the game, and he knows how to pass that through to other people. That's what I saw when we were starting him as a freshman. That's what you're seeing now."
