Great Win! Hughes is setting himself up for a huge contract. Gil made some terrible decisions late. This is a tough team!

Re: Game Thread: 3.27.05 Wizards @ Sonics
Damn we win. Hughes made the play as I predicted getting the steal. What a win down to the last possesion again.
As for the whole game. Hughes was huge all night, Arenas was big earlier terrible down the stretch he almost gave the game away with bad decisions
EJ made some bad subs at the end that almost cost us.
Etan played very well showed good touch around the basket and made his free throws.
Kwame played like crap for the most part although his last 2 free throws showed some heart. He has no touch around the basket. No touch period right now. He has lost the touch he had last season around the basket. But he's also struggling with his foot also. Getting it nicked in the game.
I think this is the best Defense we've played all year and we shared the ball offensively tonight no one took too many bad shots and we hit the open man.
We had about 25 asssists which was terrific.
But Hughes was the hero he didn't go for Allen's fakes and stripped the ball, great play. He played a marvelpous game best he's played since he came back.
NOW if we can get tomorrow's game it will have been a good road trip.
Kwame has got to elevate his game and bear down through the injuries he can give us more than he is right now.
The Sky isn't falling we're just inconsistent is all.

Re: Game Thread: 3.27.05 Wizards @ Sonics
Hughes owned Ray Allen in every way possible. And do you guys see the difference between the two? Hughes can make game changing plays on the defensive end, he had a huge clutch steal and than at the end just cleanly knocked the ball out of Allens hands.
That offensive foul was BS, the guy was moving his feet, refs just have some kind of venedetta against Arenas.
MUCH needed win. I was expecting to feel some huge difference without Wood in there but the D still wasn't that bad, and hell, Etan can hit the jumper now.

Damn I guess all those the real Wizards fans who predicted a loss feel real foolish right now.
We aren't bad and aren't struggling just playing really average.
Kwame can't get off that foot he's getting his shot blocked a lot the last 2 games.
I'm just glad he got back in the game from the injury one more damn injury and it could be curtains for us. 1 team can't overcome but so much.

Hughes had Allen's number tonight for sure. I'm not ready to say he's better than Allen. But he was tonight. His steals were key in the Wizards getting this win. More importantly than the steals was him staying in front of Allen and not giving up penetration

I hear you, when Allens shot is on that's invaluable, but Hughes is definetly better defensively IMO, he doesn't just lead the league in steals he gets steal in critical moments, and he gets them on man to man defense.
I think Allen will get a bigger contract this summer tho.

I don't view amount of salary to compare the worth of a player. I think Hughes is a very good player, he hasn't been as good as Allen has for most of his career but this season's he's def in the conversation. Hughes will have more value to the Wizards than he will on the Open Market. He will not get offered franchise money on the market. He will probably be given above market value by the Wizards.
I think Allen will get franchise money on the Open Market simply because he has more name recognition and is viewed as a Superstar by fans because of things that aren't as bball related he puts butts in seats.
But the difference in Allen and Hughes as players to me is very little when it comes to verall effectiveness.
I think Kwame will be offered good money on the market because the market for Bigs is always good. Especially going by last season's open market. If Kwame's smart he'll sign the tender and have the big year derailed by the injury he didn't have this season. If completely healthy I think kwame is more aluable than Hughes because he's a skilled big when healthy and those are more valuable than most teams than a guard is. I still think Kwame's gonna be good once he gets right.
but back to Hughes/Allen. While Allen may get more money Hughes is probably just as good at this time.

Re: Game Thread: 3.27.05 Wizards @ Sonics
Hughes had a big game on both ends of the court and outplayed Ray tonight. But Ray still got 27 points and eight rebounds, so its not like he shut Ray down.
Even so, The Sonics had possession with 16.7 seconds left down by one at home. The Wizards came through with a big stop on the last possession and won by one point. But then the Wizards have been very, very good at winning close games all season. Congratulations on another big win.

Re: Game Thread: 3.27.05 Wizards @ Sonics
Man, I thought you guys were going to blow this one for sure. I only watched about the last 4 minutes, the Wiz looked pretty good to me until about the last minute.
I thought Hughes and Arenas both committed bad fouls that could have cost you guys- one on Hughes when he reached for a steal after Allen went around a pick, Arenas had his back and was right there to pick up Allen. Arenas got a reach in about 40 feet from the basket on Allen with the shot clock down to about 10. The charge on Arenas was a no-call IMO, I wouldn't have called the block but it certainly was one weak charge.
But Hughes made a great, great defensive play on Allen at the end, I thought Allen would pull up and shoot over Hughes once he got in the lane, but he gave Hughes the chance to make the steal and he did. I don't know what Allen was thinking, it's not like Hughes gets many steals...
Big win for you guys, not just in the standings but in beating a top team on the road. I'm really looking forward to what is looking like a Bulls/Wiz first-round matchup.

Oh man did you guy's notice how badly Allen traveled! He actually took 4 steps!
I guess you can't call a travel on the home teams last possesion though...
