The Wizards were extremely lethargic in the first half for the most part. Stackhouse was horrid all game with his outside shot, and MJ just didn't seem to have anything in the tank. In the end of the first and beginning of the second quarter the Wizards went to Kwame and Etan down low. Kwame proceeded to abuse whoever was guarding him, going threw Chandler, Marshall, and Fizer, scoring 10 straight points for the Wizards. However, the Bulls were hot and everything seemed to be going in for them. 1st half ends with Rose missing a layup.
The second half was obviously a different story. MJ starts the fire and the rest of the guys pick it up. Hughes sees Stack is struggling and tries to pick it up, but Stack continues to attack when he is given the opportunity. Hughes has several good shots, and a nice steal on Jay and fast break dunk as the Wizards overcome an 11 point deficit to go up by 11. Kwame got a little bit of time in the second half, played some decent minutes and some good defense on Fizer, preventing Fizer from going on. The Bulls do fight back in the 4th quarter as the Wizards go cold again. MJ and Stack have nothing, but Laettner starts to get hot. In three separate instances with the Wizards up only one, Laettner hits the big shot. Laettner even got a dunk in the game with Fizer lying on the floor. Oakley, our Ben Hur, came in to end it and did the Oakley thug thing. The Bulls did not do well at that point.
Here are some impressions. Kwame was a spark off the bench and at least kept the score within reach the first half. Etan rebounded well, sucking in quite a few boards and doing some dirty work. He is still a black hole, but with Curry guarding you, that is okay. Haywood was his usual self. Not many rebounds, but at least he tried to finish hard tonight instead of the soft stuff he has on display recently. Lue was not great, but he didn't toally suck. Young guys gave some energy in the first half, some spot duty in the second, and the vets handled the ending. Good win.
Some minor notes: Chandler got a fast break dunk served with a behind the back pass from Jay Williams to the trailing Chandler. Chandler dunks and proceeds to flex while sitting on the ground. He ended up with 6 and 6 getting outplayed by Kwame again, though there was less Kwame-Chandler head to head this game, with how Kwame looked out there offensively I doubt it would have mattered.
