Kwame's Ankle

An Article in the Washington Times said that Kwame reinjured his ankle in the Sonics game or the clippers game...

It's kind of showing, he actually is getting no lift what so ever, he is playing like he is 6'4".

Did anyone else notice this in the Blazers game?

Yes, it was really noticeable. There were plenty of times where Phil would comment on Kwame not getting enough separation when he kept getting blocked. It appeared as though he just wasn't able to get enough power out of his legs. At least not the explosiveness he is used to.

Re: Kwame's Ankle

He's definitely not at full health, easy to see if you watch him play. I haven't seen much of his quick first step, and he basically doesn't jump more than a few inches unless it is absolutely necessary (likely why he's been getting hook shots thrown back in his face). I don't doubt that if we had a full lineup of players, he'd be resting. As is though, as long as he's healthy enough to stand out there on the court and nab us 8/8, we're going to have him do just that.

Re: Kwame's Ankle

Kwame has been real strong toughing it out. His man defense has been strong although his offense has really suffered because of his lack mobility. I really wish we'd run more pick and pop stuff with him. He has a jumper that works when he's set. Thats an option we could really use almost CWebb style. Instead of having him roll into the paint where he can't get any lift and gets his shots blocked or contested.

He can hit that jumper consistently if they started setting him up for it.

Re: Kwame's Ankle

This is going to be a tough off-season decision on whether we should re-sign him because he hasn't really shown anything this season.

Re: Kwame's Ankle

Can't remember where I read it, but I definitely read somewhere that the 4 year $30 million offer from last summer is a standing offer. At this point, I have a tough time seeing another team offering him anything better than that. Maybe Atlanta, if their top choice or two falls through. I may be underestimating though, especially since he has that young+big combination about him.

I agree. He is young and big, but he has also proved injury prone this season. I have a hard time seeing anyone but a desperate team like the Hawks putting that kind of faith in him. I think he'd be best served signing a one year deal, and try to bring his stock back up next season.

As for right now, yes, he's noticeably injured, and it's a letdown. The Wizards have had their best season in some time, and he's been injured for most of it. As long as he can compete on the boards, and just be respectable out there, than he will be doing his job. It's a shame that when Haywood gets injured, Brown still isn't physically capable of trying to step it up and impress Grunfeld. He still can impress with some strong play, but it'll be more of a pity type of thing.
