Collins quote on Kwame

"If he feels he has an advantage, he'll spank you."

Obviously Kwame feels that way about the Chicago guys. How does he get that feeling against the rest of the league?

My observation is that Kaybro is just "too much" of a nice kid.

The position he plays requies a bit of a mean streak. Maybe he needs to absorb lessons from some of his "meaner" mentors

I think Kwame is used to just killing his opponents and has trouble when that does not come naturally. He kills Chandler because he is used to dominating him and wants to continue. He needs to work on specific parts of his game, see improvements and display them on the court. He will then see some results.

I think mean streak , nice streak are overblown when it comes to a young player because confidence is the key with Kwame. Kwame needs to be more agressive period. He struggles with when and when not to be aggressive. Collins is tough on him so making mistakes are certain to be in his head all the time. Against the better players sometimes Collins stresses things to the point that I think Kwame feels the coach thinks he's might not be able to handle the challenge. Once Kwame gets the confidence that he can play with anybody regardless of reputation he's going to be very special. When Kwame plays with confidence he scores and does things so effortlessly. He scored those 16 1st half points so easily that it was just a glimpse into what the future holds. This has been so far a good 2nd year for Kwame coming off of the nightmare last year. I think even bigger things could be in store for Kwame later this season as his confidence is sure to grow.

I think the statement by Collins is meant to be a "nudge" for Kwame, as he has such awesome potential and he needs to have that "feeling of dominance" against more opponents than just Chandler.

What gets me is that Collins is not shy about expressing his opinions about Kwame to the media. Either he is not as fragile as many of us think or Collins is using the media to motivate him which can be very risky.

I go back to what they said about Kwame last year about his stubborness. I think this is why Collins is doing this to put the focus on things to make Kwame prove him wrong. I think Kwame's grown up some and isn't fragile at all. But I agree this is risky. I believe the better course to take would be to counsel privately. No need in irritating the future franchise player by making such comments. Contract time comes maybe so discontentment sets in. I do think Collins wants so bad for Kwame to be a star he grows frustrated with the inconsistency. He sees halfs like last night and thinks if he could do that everynight my job would be so much easier.

Risky or smart?

I know one thing - if it was "risky", Michael would have plenty to say about the method Collins is using with Kwame. Next year Michael goes back to owning part of this franchise and he has that in mind, as well.

For years this franchise was almost ruined by Wes, "What fine MESS Wes got this franchise into" - and only with great management moves by Jordan has this franchise regained some "attitude". Abe's devotion to Wes helped to bring this franchise down. Abe's BEST move was to let Mike own a part of this franchise, imho!
