Fire Eddie?

It might seem ridiculous to fire EJ to appease Kwame (I mean, c'mon, appease an unproven 23-year old?), but this is the NBA and we all know players, not coaches ultimately win championships for you. Kwame has a ton of potential. We all know that. Unfortunately, he's been utterly dissapointing for the last 4 years and has clashed with both Collins and now EJ. It is a gamble to keep Kwame, but he is restricted so that's at our discretion. Considering recent events, it doesn't appear he'll get much more than the 4 yr. 30 mil. that we offered him, no matter where he goes. Even if he wants out, we could match anything and he'd have to stay. It's not going to work out with him and EJ, but I think most of us agree that EJ can get you to playoff level, but not to championship level so he may be on the way out in a year or two anyways. Maybe now is the time to try to find the "right" coach. I'd just hate to see a talent like Kwame slip away (especially considering out team's history) even if it means a fair amount of risk.

Even though I'm squarely on Kwame's side (see my comments in the preceding thread), he needed to handle things more maturely. Eddie and Ernie are the bosses, they call the shots - he can only damage his worth by reacting the way he did.

No question he damaged his worth. That helps us this summer, actually. As for who's the boss. Ernie is Eddie's boss, who is Kwame's boss. Ultimately, Eddie really has no say in this. It's all up to Ernie.

It only helps us if we want a sulking, underpaid Kwame on the cheap. We don't want Kwame, we want a professional, starter-quality power forward, and we won't get it if Kwame's value plummets.

Re: Fire Eddie?

I'd be plenty happy seeing EJ get replaced, though Kwame is only a tiny part of the reason why.

How about a choice of Kurt Thomas,Malik Rose or Mike Sweetney plus the Knicks #30 pick...

Kurt Thomas would do nicely. Mike Sweetney too. Rose is getting kind of long in the tooth, although Kurt is no spring chicken either.

Re: Fire Eddie?

Firing EJ is about the dumbest thing we could want right now.

His demeanor is the absolute most important thing for this team. He is unflappable and his players pick up on that. His willingness to coach to his players strengths, as well as his no nonsense approach to foolishness, see Gilbert's first season and Kwame this year, is exactly what this young team needs.

EJ deserves a lot of credit for sailing this ship into the playoffs and it started his first day on the job.
