Well, looks like Redd already received maximum contract offers from both the Bucks (6 years, $85ish milion) and Cavs (5 years, $65ish million). Why does it matter for us? Simply put, Hughes is going to cost us if we want to keep him. Redd was no better than Hughes last season, and he's already gotten two max offers. Ray Allen will be getting max offers from several teams soon as well (Seattle, LA Clippers, Cleveland if Redd falls through). Who's to say that a team or two out there won't offer the same to Hughes? I could especially see Cleveland getting desperate if Redd and Allen don't sign with them. Are we prepared to be paying Hughes eight figures a year? That's what it will take. Do we even want Hughes back if it'll cost that much? I would think not, though we may feel the pressure to keep the playoff group together.

Michael Redd's value is much higher than Larry Hughes because he has been good for multiple years, unlike Hughes who has really only picked up his play during the past season. Redd also has stayed more healthy than Larry Hughes. Hughes has missed 25% of those games during the past five years. Redd also shot 44% on a team where he was the number 1 option while Hughes shot 43% on a team where he was the 2nd or 3rd option.

Still, Hughes is a better rebounder and shooter and fits the Wizards better but it is hard to see any team offering a max deal similar to what the Cavaliers have offered. (although he would be a good fit with Lebron). I think Hughes will not get a max offer but if he did, the Wizards would in my mind would let him walk and would most likely start Jarvis Hayes.
