Official thread: Wiz vs Houston 2/27/2003
I thought there was a thread going but let me start it after the fact.
Collins went with a 7 man rotation the entire game. I think it cost him in the second half when the team got put on their heels and when Houston made their run with the Wizards fatigued. When Haywood fouled out and Lue went down, the Wizards were extremely lucky to win in OT. I would love to hear what Collins' excuse is for the tight rotation. Even though they won, he should say something about it, because it really should not have been that close.
Regardless, we have to start taking these games 1 at a time like MJ said. As long as we are winning I guess Doug is going to do what he wants.

As a Maryland student, I'm as big a fan of Juan as anyone but I fear that he may be the only PG available against Chicago if Lue is hurt enough to miss the game.

LOL at Oakley getting schooled about 7 possessions in a row.
You would guess after the 4th time, Collins would try Kwame.
I woudln't be surprised to see Latner and Joakley start the rest of the season. Good lord.

Juan as the only PG could be scarey.
24 minutes for Oakley is about 14 minutes too many and I am being generous saying he deserves 10.
Steve Francis was awful tonight. He had that 3 pointer at the end and was afraid to take it. He should have been called for travelling but the refs swallowed their whistles. We were so lucky it was crazy.
Let me add that even though Brendan had 5 blocks, there was a critical stretch where he was just plain awful as well.
Fun stuff.

The one advantage I see if this occurs is that we're playing Chicago. At least Juan has a good deal of experience playing against Jay Williams. Plus J-Wil is definately not a defensive stopper so it may not be as big a concern for Juan running the offense. I'd so love to see Dixon torch the Dukie

Yes!
Oak is good for 15 mpg at most. Anything more is just being stubborn. Haywood is also being played too much. He isn't in good enough shape to play 30 minutes, and neither is Oakley.
We were so lucky at the end....I was in shock that they didnt call a travel on Steve, and I was in even bigger shock that Cat was so close to making that final shot.
And for once, I'm actually scared Lue might miss the next game. Juan isn't good enough to see full time duty.

Apparently Lue seperated his shoulder. I would think he will be out for the Chicago game.
Get ready for some fun.

Expect MJ is to see minutes at pg. Juan will probably bring the ball up, and let MJ initate.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see Oakley run the point for a bit.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me to see the same sort of stuff we saw in the 4th and OT where Juan and L8 run the pick and roll and let L8 get the ball back and make the decisions on passing off screens. At this point he's better at that than Juan. The bright note is that I think Juan may end up shooting a better percentage as a starter, instead of comming off the bench cold.

True, but I hope they don't overrun that play. They ran it every time in OT, and Mo Taylor came close to stealing the ball almost everytime. Also, the defender tends to play L8 close (since L8 isnt a threat to blow past them off the dribble) and that messes up the timing of the play.
Collins will have to mix things up with the playcalling on Saturday.

Good call Local, Joak as you call him was toast just like the other night against JO he got his wig smoked. Taylor then broke out the crossover on Laet for good measure. Kwame should have been given some time, playing Oak and laet that many minutes is laughable thats why we lost the lead.
I'm with you also BCH Juan as the only pg is frightening, will we see the return of C Whit the walking AND1 . I think it'd be fun to see a NBDL guy personally.
I might start chanting we want Kwame, its a joke that the kid can't get any time playing all these old timers is gonna backfire I have a feeling.
MJ was terrific he's been laying it on the line since he's turned 40 averaging over 30ppg. Incredible.
Stack has Knee tendenitis , and Lue seperates a shoulder what the hell else can happen but we have to find a way to win despite.
Will take these up coming games 1 by 1 because the Wizards could very easily lose. With the Bulls coming up and their PUPS playing well anything can happen the Bulls have been playing well of late so the focus will have to be there.
Haywood deserves some props for his defense on Yao he kept Yao from having a huge impact for the most part.

Sure it was. The ball had reached its apex and was descending into the hoop. Yao batted it away. It could not have been more clear.

It had reached its apex but Im not too sure the ball was over the rim. It looked as though it was going to fall short.
Frankly, Im not sure. The shot was from about 10 feet away, and I dont see MJ airballing a 10 foot scoop shot.
