Atkins Wants Out

Certainly sounds that way ...

Quote:
"All I know is that there's a week until the 15th, and that possible moves will be made. I just hope I'm one of them," said Atkins...
Firstly, I don't think anyone will miss Atkins if he's dealt. He's been terrible the opening six weeks of the season, having a grand total of two good games out of sixteen. It's not like those other fourteen were average or anything either -- they were pretty terrible for the most part. I don't really want the guy playing much if at all, so if we can get anyone of any use to us in a trade for him, great.

Second, if you read the article, it's interesting to see just why he wants out: not having a clue what his role is and very sporadic minutes. Atkins is the only player to complain of this so far, but I can't be the only one that thinks just about everyone outside Arenas and Jamison could be having the exact same issues. If the team doesn't pick up the winning, I think sooner or later others may hint at the exact same thing. If we hit the all-star break and the team is looking like they're lottery-bound, I wouldn't be surprised to see EJ take the hit.

Re: Atkins Wants Out

I just read this myself. I know very soon, everyone will propose the 'disgruntled player' trade between Artest and Atkins, but that is foolish.
I'm with you MJG, this will help to clear up the muddled backcourt. It'd be nice to get an aggressive power forward for him, someone like Kenny Thomas or Reggie Evans, but I know those big-for-small trades are rare.

Re: Atkins Wants Out

But If we lose Chucky we still would have to get a backup PG because that would leave Gilbert and Daniels the only ballhandlers and penatrators on the team and if one of those guys ever got injured "knock on wood" and required missing a lenghty period of time, we would be up the creek. Simple as this Hayes and Jeffries needs to be benched or traded for whatever we can get for them "PERIOD" , the've been here long enough and really haven't shown any improvement, all they ever do is start and produce practicly nothing, and frankly im sick of watching it, its time for a change. Chucky has been bad but he isnt any worse than Hayes you give him Hayes minutes and im sure he can put up the same numbers Hayes can.

Lineup

PG Arenas20/Atkins28
SG Danies28/Arenas20/Hayes
SF Caron35/Jeffries13/Jamison/Hayes
PF Jamison38/Ruffin5/Jeffries5
C Haywood30/Thomas18\Ruffin

Its a small lineup but thats what I would go with.

Re: Atkins Wants Out

How about an Atkins for Watson swap? Watson is an excellent perimeter defender, which we need, and Atkins is supposedly a good three point shooter, which Denver needs. The only negative I see is that Watson is signed for four years beyond this one for MLE-level money, and that'd be a lot of money tied up in two backup PGs. Though if we start Daniels and make him the pseudo-PG and Arenas the pseudo-SG, then that wouldn't be as bad. We could start Watson and have Daniels be the backup as well, if you prefer.

If you are looking for bigs, there's Brian Skinner (Kings don't use him) or maybe Chris Mihm (Lakers could use Atkins).

I just skimmed through salaries earlier, haven't had time to look all that deeply, but they're a few ideas.

Re: Atkins Wants Out

I would be happy with a 2nd round pick. The Wizards can pick up some marginal guy like Anthony Goldwire for all I care.

I'd gladly take a 2nd round pick for this bum.

Re: Atkins Wants Out

First Atkins rumor pops up ...

Quote:
According to a source close to Atkins as well as a team source, the Wizards have discussed a trade that would send Atkins and fourth-year forward Jared Jeffries to the New York Knicks in exchange for swingman Quentin Richardson.
Looking at the career stats, Richardson is basically Jarvis Hayes, except he hits an extra three and grabs an extra rebound a game. He's better than the two guys we're giving up for the most part, but considering he's owed over $8 million per for the next four years, I'd pass. We can just extend Hayes for less than that.
