Re: Game Thread: 12.23.05 Wizards @ Suns
I hope everyone got to watch this game. This will probably be one of the best Wizards games all year. Both teams played fun and exciting ball, and not once did you start to guess that one team was going to pull away. If you couldn't watch, find someone who recorded it, you won't be disappointed.
Arenas choked at the free throw line in the final period tonight, but you can't deny his previous three quarters were nothing short of amazing on the offensive end. Getting over 40 points with only five made free throws, pretty nice.
Jamison slowed down as the game moved along, but as a whole he is still looking better than he did the half dozen before the Denver game. Moving Caron to the starting lineup, maybe that took some pressure off of him? Either way he's looking more solid.
Can't say enough good things about Caron. He started off the game kind of slow, but that didn't stop him one bit, and he finished strong enough to have 26 points on 50% shooting. Can't really ask him to do much more than that. Also very nice to see EJ willing to let him play big minutes (44 last night) as it is needed. He obviously can't do that every night, but hopefully now that he's starting, he'll get something closer to the 35 he averaged last year.
Also can't say enough about Jeffries the past two games. The bizarre moved to SG for him has for whatever reason worked wonders, and he's looking like the player we had hoped he would be all along. The numbers aren't whopping -- 9.5 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.5 blocks, 57% FG -- but they are a lot better than usual. More important, he's just flat out playing better. He's hitting the post against smallers guys, leading fast breaks after grabbing rebounds, and just generally doing the type of things we've hoped he would do but rarely did. Now I'm not sure if this is something we can expect regularly with his new position or if it's just a coincidentially solid pair of games, but I'll cross my fingers for the former.
We've still got to play at least three or four more games with this rotation before I start getting too cheery about things. That said, if we go another couple weeks and things are looking like they have the first two games with the new lineup, I might have to reverse my reverse of playoff prediction.
