Very good game, was impressed by Salim Stoudamire and Josh Childress, without them the Hawks wouldn't have gotten even close to winning. Great clutch plays by Arenas to shut down the game in OT.

Re: Game Thread: 1.14.06 Wizards @ Hawks

Yeaa, I was at the game. Courtside, too. Man, I need to make more money. So I can go to more games at courtside. lol. That is so much more enjoyable than at home on the couch.

Chris Tucker sat like two rows in front of me, too. And it was a pretty entertaining game. Better than the one earlier this week. Woodson keeps bugging me with his rotations though. Should have kept JSmoove in more cause Al Harrington was playing poor.

Even with Salim and Childress, this game shouldn't have been close. These are the Hawks, for goodness sakes.

Yes, great clutch shooting by Arenas, but he's backsliding into his old ways again: ballhogging, failing to pass to his teammates so they can score, and generally acting like a two instead of a one. It might be time for Jordan to sit Gilbert again for a quarter or two to remind him to behave like a point guard instead of a shooting guard. Forcing him to watch a few hours of John Stockton and Steve Nash might help too.

...or just concede that Gilbert Arenas isn't a point guard and go hire somebody else to fill that role. Move Arenas to the two, where he's obviously more comfortable--and where the ball won't be in his hands constantly unless the point guard thinks it should be.

If he'd been doing it up proper, the game wouldn't have been that close, and he wouldn't have had to make those clutch shots at all.

Re: Game Thread: 1.14.06 Wizards @ Hawks

^^^ I agree, I wish he was a little more consistant as far as getting others involved in the game, 3 assist is not gonna cut it and his careless turnovers needs to be cut down especially late in games, it probably cost us a few games earlier and almost cost us this one. EJ has been doing a better job lately but he really needs to get on Gilbert about his decision making sometimes, instead of just quoting "Im lucky to be coaching a guy like Arenas".

Re: Game Thread: 1.14.06 Wizards @ Hawks

I like the Hawks lineup w/o Tyrone(sp) Lue. Basically what he can do, Salim can do better a lil bit. And w/o his stupid runner and poor defense the Hawks are good to go winning games in the 4th quarter.

Good game tho.

Haters, check the sig. We can't be critical of Arenas when we think he should get others more involved in the offense?

Re: Game Thread: 1.14.06 Wizards @ Hawks

I think everyone got theirs, check the box score. The way the Wizards run their offense, sometimes Gilbert isn't going to get the pass that leads to the score, but maybe the pass that leads to the pass that leads to his score.

He does run the team though. He sets the pace offensively. He probably could have done more in the past to help set it defensively.

Anyway, I am less concerned about Gilbert's assist numbers in a game like this than I am in seeing balanced scoring. Daniels with 18 off the bench but other than that? Nothing.

In other news, here is an EJ quote i thought I would share. "One-hundred percent defensive commitment, a physical approach and 100-percent trust," Jordan said before the game. "Offensively we see guys sharing the ball. Ruffin and Calvin won't take jumpers that get us in trouble a lot. We are setting better screens and we know who the core scorers are, Gilbert [Arenas], Caron [Butler] and Jared [Jeffries]." (The emphasis is mine).

Does that make anyone else cringe?

it's interesting, Jared has been taking a lot more jumpers lately. It makes me think EJ is telling him to try and score more.

He is pretty damn athletic, i wish he had some sort of a shot though.

Re: Game Thread: 1.14.06 Wizards @ Hawks

Jarred Jeffries is athletic just like 95% percent of the NBA players are what makes him so special. He's a good ball handler for his height but far too often over dribbles and ends up turning it over. He thinks he's a shooting guard because EJ says he is and he starts him there. If anyone notice Arenas gets lots of his turnovers early in the game due to being the only true guard, ballhandler and creator on the floor, he usually settles down when Daniels comes in the game. EJ is fooling himself if he thinks Jeffries is some kind of offensive threat.
