Wiz going after Stevenson
I haven't heard anything about DeShawn is awhile. I was amazed to learn he started every game for the Magic last year.
What do you guys think, would he be a good addition to the Wiz?
Quote:
The Washington Wizards have emerged among three suitors as perhaps the front-runner for shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson, who started all 82 games for the Orlando Magic last season.
Rob Pelinka, Stevenson's agent, told the Orlando Sentinel yesterday that three teams other than the Magic are in the hunt, and two have made offers. The Stevenson camp expects a third offer later this week. Pelinka said he could not divulge the interested teams, but an Eastern Conference executive told the Sentinel that the Wizards are one of the clubs. Pelinka had no further comment.
The offers for Stevenson from the other clubs apparently are better than anything the Magic have brought to the table so far. Teams can sign free agents starting next Wednesday. According to league sources, the Magic's offer has not come close at this point to matching the others. A key sticking point for Stevenson is the number of years.
Stevenson was to make $3 million next season, the final year of his contract, but exercised an option in his deal to become an unrestricted free agent. Magic General Manager Otis Smith reiterated yesterday that the Magic want to bring back Stevenson at a "reasonable" number, which is about $3 million to $3.5 million for perhaps three years.

Re: Wiz going after Stevenson
He would improve the roster; but giving him too much money (such as the MLE) may be going a little bit overboard.

I agree with u 100%. Stevenson is nice player. Has a nice mid range jumper. Heard he plays good d. But he isnt worth what i think he is asking for. I think it is around 5M a year for 4-5 years, no to that.

Re: Wiz going after Stevenson
My question is where would he play? If the Wizards sign him, doesn't that force Butler to the 3 and leave Jamison at the 4?

Re: Wiz going after Stevenson
Stevenson would be a good defender to attempt to handle LeBron and Wade in the east, but that's about it. I wouldn't give him any more than 3 million per year. As a Orlando fan, if he signs with the Wizards I wouldn't shed a tear.

Re: Wiz going after Stevenson
If Jeffries doesn't leave, Stevenson could just back up Butler at the 2 ('sides, Butler played the 3 plenty in Miami)
He's a capable enough starter, could be the primary 2/3 backup, with Daniels as the primary 1/2 backup.
