Stevenson is a nice guy to have coming off the bench. He brings energy and great spark to the court in limited minutes. Nice pick-up.

Re: Wizards sign DeShawn Stevenson
WOW, a minimum deal
Quote:
According to Bartelstein, Stevenson agreed to a two-year contract worth the NBA minimum salary. Since he has six-plus years of service, that would be $932,015 for the first year. Stevenson has a player option in the second year of the contract.
The deal is a pretty big blow to Stevenson financially. He opted out of a contract this spring that would have paid him $3 million and then turned down a three-year, $10 million contract from the Magic in early July.
Stevenson then changed agents and agreed to the deal with the Wizards.
"There just isn't much money left out there," Bartelstein said. "This gives DeShawn an excellent opportunity to play significant minutes on a very good team. I think by next summer, the rest of the league will see his real value and he'll earn back the money he lost."

DeShawn has to feel like an idiot. Great deal for the Wizards though.

Re: Wizards sign DeShawn Stevenson
We got him for the league minimum? Awesome. This is really good news. I've always liked Stevenson. His offensive ability is promising and I can't wait to see him on the court.

He's an idiot for opting out and not staying in Orlando ... but he is a fantastic deal at league minimum.
Although I wouldn't get too excited about his offensive ability. He is more valuable for his defensive ability than offensive.

His offensive ability will be far greater than what Jarred Jeffries would offer. I'm still not sure whether or not the Wizards will match the Knicks offer for JJ.

Re: Wizards sign DeShawn Stevenson
If they bring back Jeffries, I really like this Wizards team.
PG: Gilbert Arenas...Antonio Daniels
SG: Caron Butler...DeShawn Stevenson
SF: Jared Jeffries...Jarvis Hayes
PF: Antawn Jamison...Darius Songaila
C: Brendan Haywood...Etan Thomas
They've got a lot of scoring and a lot of depth...they should be fun to watch.

Re: Wizards sign DeShawn Stevenson
I think Stevenson is figuring this NBA thing out. He's gotten away from thoughts of being the next Kobe Bryant, instead has focused on defense and spot up shooting. He's becoming a player coaches can trust to make the right play.
I think his best days as a player are still ahead.
Solid pick-up.
I think this means JJ is a goner which is gonna hurt the Wizards style of play because he was the other push the ball up guy EJ loves.

Well, if Jeffries isn't kept, then he would start. If the Wizards bring back Jeffries, then I think he will come off the bench, but still split minutes with DeShawn.

Re: Wizards sign DeShawn Stevenson
Stevenson isn't outright awful, but I don't know that he's much help.
I agree that he makes JJ a goner. He'll fill about the same role for a smaller price. My impression, despite what has been reported by the Wizards, is that they'd probably have to pay the tax if they re-signed JJ. So I think this is his replacement.

Re: Wizards sign DeShawn Stevenson
i dont think stevenson makes jeffries expendable at all , but if blatche can play any defense at all , I would think that he would have an impact on wheteher the wizards want to keep jeffries.
stevenson if he were to get big minutes basically makes jamison have to defend 4's full time(assuming caron butler gets big minutes too) and i dont know if thats what the wizards want.
