The Washington Wizards will not match the New York Knicks five-year, $30 million offer sheet extended to restricted free agent forward Jared Jeffries last week, a league source told SI.com. Jeffries will become property of the Knicks on Monday.

Good riddance. The Knicks can enjoy his decent defense and poor offense for 5 years!

I think I would have kept JJ around, but I don't think it's the end of the world either.
If the Wiz hadn't given out crappy deals to several players, I think they'd have matched this offer, but perhaps it'll push them toward make a few of the right fiscal moves to be players down the road.

Re: Jeffries to New York (according to SI)
This came down to Abe not paying the 6 mill signing bonus. That was a very smart ploy by JJ's agent. Abe doesn't like to write big checks to players or coaches up front. He likes to string things out he's still paying former coaches.
Losing JJ is a blow to EJ. He was EJ's favorite player. JJ was his do everything type, now they have to do it by commitee. All things considered I think Blatch has a chance to be a better player than JJ in the long run , he's alittle bigger and more aggressive and smooth offensively.

Re: Jeffries to New York (according to SI)
I assume Jarvis Hayes will be back at full strength next year, yes? If so, I'm guessing Washington's lineup will be...
PG: Gilbert Arenas...Antonio Daniels
SG: Deshawn Stevenson...Jarvis Hayes
SF: Caron Butler...Jarvis Hayes
PF: Antawn Jamison...Darius Songaila
C: Brendan Haywood...Etan Thomas
In the Eastern Conference, that is a very solid 9-man rotation. Then they've got Michael Ruffin along with young guys Andray Blatche and Oleksiy Pecherov...the future is bright in Washington.

Re: Jeffries to New York (according to SI)
I'm ordering League pass soon just so I can follow the Knicks games. Its gonna be intresting to see how the fans are going to react when Jeffries bricks jumpers, miss layups, and the number of offensive fouls he will get thinking hes a PG or a penatrator. And they are really overrating his defensive abilities. Im sorry but the way Jeffries left (mainly because of his greedy agent) just left a bad taste in my mouth. It was no different than Larry Hughes.

Re: Jeffries to New York (according to SI)
I think we are a better team right now, but a lot will depend on Deshawn Stevenson and I don't really know what he is gonna do for us. Also Jarvis Hayes needs to have a good year so I guess the 2 spot is the question mark this year. I really think that soon is the time to make a big move for a marquee big guy and make our push.

Re: Jeffries to New York (according to SI)
You guys can have him back for a first rnd pick if you'd like LOL. I just hope he doesn't become the Anti Jerome James in all the bad ways. IE so thin that he keeps getting hurt, cause I know he's a walking injury. A question to wiz fans. Is he as injuryprone and unuseful as many think he is? Like I keep hearing that he can't do anything that requires any skill besides rebound or defend, and he's always hurt. Is this accurate?

Re: Jeffries to New York (according to SI)
He's actually only missed about 10 games in the past 3 seasons. In his rookie season he got hurt and only played 20 games.
As for being useful, here's a breakdown:
Excellent
- Nothing, really ...
Good
- Solid man to man defense
- Decent blocking
- Good transition defense
- Rebounding
Bad
- Layups
- 3P Shooting (he likes to take these and it hurts to see it leave his hand)
- FT Shooting
- Actually, pretty much all shooting he kind of lack in
Terrible
- Nothing too big
So pretty much you got a decent, at best, SF/PF for 30 million over 5 years. It's not that bad of a deal, although 10 million for the first year is a blow to the salary cap (and I'm starting to think the Knicks don't realize there is one).
