New Wiz guard Stevenson not too bright
From the Times
Quote:
The deal -- reported first on ESPN.com late Thursday -- will pay Stevenson the league minimum of $932,015 in the first season. Stevenson has a player option in the second year.
The Wizards acquired the sturdy, 6-foot-4 Stevenson at a bargain price. Stevenson, who spent the last two-plus seasons in Orlando, opted out of the final year of a contract that would have paid him $3 million next season. That was shortly after he turned down a three-year, $10 million extension offered by Orlando.

That's gotta sting.

Actually he's pretty smart. He wants to play for a winner.

You should make sure you are actually going to be better than Orlando next year before making statements like that.
Either way, it was obviously a completely boneheaded move. He wanted 5 mil a year and I knew (or hoped) that Orlando wouldn't be dumb enough to give it to him.

Re: New Wiz guard Stevenson not too bright
Yeah, I mean a back to back playoff team compared to a team that hasn't been in the playoffs the last two years...I would say that's a safe bet..
Then again, Dwight Howard is ****ing amazing

Yeah, but the last 2 years really don't matter. I'm talking about this season. The Wiz will probably be better than Orlando this season but I don't think it is a given. And certainly not far enough ahead of Orlando to justify one as being "a winner" vs the other.
Personally, if I'm a marginally talented guard, I stick with the team that has Dwight Howard on it because he's going to make my life easier.

How? Dwight Howard does not draw post double teams like that.
Same thing as Stephen jackson a few years back and he earned his payday anyway.
His best bet is to try and pattern his game after Raja Bell and become the Wizards defensive stopper. A good playoff performance limiting Wade, LeBron, etc will get him a MLE deal.

That's not true. Watch the last half of last season. Once Orlando made Dwight more of a focal point he was basically doubled or even tripled whenever he touched the ball near the basket.

Re: New Wiz guard Stevenson not too bright
I think it's far from certain that the Wizards will be better than the Magic this year.Either way Stevenson was out looking for more cheese and got his nads caught in the mousetrap.I really feel badly for him.

Re: New Wiz guard Stevenson not too bright
He definitely got his nads caught in a trap. I don't see him getting a MLE contract from anyone. He's just not that good. He was barely starter material on Orlando and they weren't a very good team. His defense is above average but he's not a stopper like a Bowen or Artest. And his offense is mediocre. An occasional slashing move for which he is a decent finisher but he should be better with his pretty good athleticism. And he can hit 18 footers but he is streaky. And he is not a good 3 pt shooter at all ... which is why he played well last year because he almost completely laid off the 3 pointers.
