Expactations for Caron Butler
When you look at his stats and their development over the season, your eyes pop out as the reach the April column:
8.7 reb, 2.3 ast, 2.8 stl, 0.5 blk, 23.5 pts
My question is, how will he perform next season? Who will get minutes at the SF/SG, and will Butler finally be a full time starter?

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
I'd say he's gonna be starting at SF, alongside Deshawn Stevenson, both backed by Jarvin Hayes (mostly).
C Haywood/Thomas
PF Jamison/Songaila
SF Butler/
SG Stevenson/Hayes
PG Arenas/Daniels
9 man rotation.
His rebounds should be high, playing more time at the 3, as should his FG%.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
With Antawn and Gilbert possibly needing more rest this season as a result of playing this summer, I look for Caron to really assert himself. Perhaps he will not be an NBA allstar, but I do think the wizards success will be directly connected to how well Caron plays.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
So are we talking 21/22 and 9 reb?
The steals in +2?

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Im thinking more like 20pts 7rbs 1.7 stls. Jeffries departure means more minutes for him. Needs to improve his defense but certianly puts out more effort than Arenas and Jamison in that department.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Butlers defensive numbers are great, and as I havent seen more than a couple of his Wiz-games I thought he did a good job on D. Is it not so?

In my opinion that's expecting too much. If he indeed has added pressure to perform due to Arenas and Jamison's fatigue from playing all summer I'd put him around 19ppg at the most with maybe 7-8rpg. Arenas and Jamison will still take a huge part of the offense tired or not, as this is the nature of this team.

He's speaking of his steals per game. His blocks per game wasn't impressive, so not sure why stats was plural.
I expect Caron to average what Hughes averaged two seasons ago before he went to Cleveland. As long as he doesn't decrease his averages from last season, I'll be happy.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Steals, LOL figured. Guys like Arenas. Iverson etc all average 2 or more steals does that classify them as good defensive players? A person who steals alot also gambles alot on defense thus getting burned on many plays which Arenas and Butler did last year. A good defender is a player who can somewhat contain his man, and plays good help defense something ive haven't seen much from Butler.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
As the season progressed (still looking at the stats... sad, I know) Butler got both rebounds, steals and blocks up. I think the seasonending stats of 0.5 blk and 8.7 for a SG/SF is pretty decent.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Wiz seems to be doing better when Butler and Twan are scoring too... the season opener looked good.
Is Butler not a part of the offensive plan anymore? His points and assists just aren't there lately.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Butler has had his chances against the Rockets. He had 6 turnovers and 5 of them were travels. I think Butler is one of the players that plays a lot better at home but he still manages to do the little things when he isn't scoring. I think the Wizards struggles have lied with Jamison, who has not managed to get his offensive game going and is a liability on d.

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Good to hear that they give him a few looks a the basket. I think he can be a perfect sidekick to Arenas. But do you see these errors (the travelling etc.) as something correctable? He didn't seem to be so mistake prone at the end of last year? Did he just loose his groove over the summer?

Re: Expactations for Caron Butler
Butler may be one of those players who just plays better later in the season. I think he averaged something like 22 ppg and 8 rpg towards the end of the 05-06 campaign. Butler also went on a tear with the Lakers in the 2nd half of the season when Kobe Bryant was injured.
The reason he is getting called for traveling violations is because the NBA is making more of an emphasis this year than in years past. I think that he will be able to correct this part of his game with time.
