Eddie Jordan
Am I the only one who thinks it's time for him to go? He doesn't seem to be improving he team. With our roster, we should be around a 45-50 win team. We have three potential all-stars every year and some good role players. The only problem is our defense and our center position.
Jordan tried to emphasize defense in training camp, but it's not showing dividends. We are still one of the worst defensive teams in the league. We are letting teams score 103 per game (6th in league) while letting them shoot 47% (8th in league). Teams are lighting us up from the three point line, shooting 38% from it (4th in league) while dishing out 23 assists a game (3rd in league). Whatever he was emphasizing isn't working.
And how has he worked on the center position? Well, he hasn't done anything. Fights between the Etan and Brendan are evidence of it.
Everyone knows he has questionable substitution patterns also. Playing bench players late in the game. Or taking out hot players in close situations.
I think if we don't get 42+ wins this season and the defense is still this bad then we need to start looking for a coach who knows how to run the team.

Re: Eddie Jordan
It's still way too early in the season. I'd rather not see the board gang up on Eddie again so early in the season. You are right, though, if we don't win 42+, then something is wrong. I like our team so far this season even if we aren't winning. I mean we just beat the Cavs by 20. So far the only real issue is we are in a funk on the road. I don't see any serious problems at this point.

Re: Eddie Jordan
There aren't many proven NBA coaches available, so I don't think it's a good idea to replace Jordan. The best available, in my opinion, Rick Adelman, does not fit with the Wizards.

Re: Eddie Jordan
Valid points. But are you guys happy with being a mediocre team? I think we have the personnel to contend for a championship.
And a coach has to start from somewhere. Why not here?

Re: Eddie Jordan
Well, I do agree with you that if we don't put up a good win total this season, then we should consider other options. I still don't know if that is likely considering EJ recently got an extension. I think it would be wise to keep Eddie around unless a really good coach that fits well with us comes on the market and I can't think of anyone right now. It's hard to believe Eddie has the most tenure of any Eastern team, but I think that's a good thing as sometimes it takes a few years to build a winning team.

Re: Eddie Jordan
Our team is flawed. We have no large bodies that have skill as well. No coach whatsoever could help. Its the players we lack, not the coach we have. We have risen so much thanks in part to Eddie. Eddie is doing a good job with the team we have. I cannot as a life-long Wizard/Bullet fan, in good conscious disapprove of a coach who has taken us to back to back playoffs.

I do agree that our center positions are lacking (as I stated in my original post). But I don't agree with you when you say there is no coach that can fix that. I highly doubt that there isn't one coach in the league that can develop a young centers talent. Look at Yao Ming. He was a very raw player 3-4 years ago, now he is a dominant center. Who is he coached by? Patrick Ewing, a former NBA All-Star. If we bring in the right coach, Thomas or Haywood could be decent and a big factor in our offense and defense.
And like I said, I'm not happy with just being in the playoffs, I want to go farther. We have the taste of it, now let's swallow the whole thing.

If you don't remember, Ewing's first coaching job was right in here in Washington, with Brendan and Etan right here. (Kwame as well) Yao Ming is good, was always good, he is just maturing to his peak now. Etan and Brendan aren't good. Their peak is still gonna be bad. If Eddie had Yao, I'm sure we would get something similar out of him. A coach can only do so much. The talent has to be there to begin with. Also we must remember, before Eddie was here, playoffs were not even an aspiration. I think to put him on the hot seat this early in the season is unfair.

Re: Eddie Jordan
EJ needs to be fired , I am a very passive Wizards fan because of him, his reliance on this Big 3 philosphy and insistance on playing small ball drives me crazy. The fact that he plays the statistical non factor Ruffin during key moments is just too much too take. I used to post here very often I was one of the boads leading posters but he has taken it outta me. The Wizrds offense is so scattershot and undisiciplined because EJ only focuses on offense and gives grief to those big players he never gives the ball or plays many minutes while Arenas, Butler, and jamison constantly get beaten off the dribble for easy scores.
Yet he screams block a shot Etan and Brendan grab a rebound, when they contest shots Jamison never comes back and protects the other side of the lane.
He needs to go with the quickness.
