Can Wiz win the East?
I want to hear what everyone thinks of our chances of making the NBA Finals this year are. I really think we have a shot because there is no dominant team like there has been in the past with the Pistons & Heat. Its possible the Heat could get back to where they were, but that's still a huge question mark. Right now we are right in the thick of things and I think only about 2 games out of the conference lead and that is the Cavs. We will have to be on top of our game, but I am not particular scared of anyone in the East right now.

I'm pretty sure that if the Wiz keep up the high scoring and great play from not only Arenas but Caron Butler, they could take on any big name team in the east. They always seem to have trouble with the Heat. If Shaq and Wade get healthy, the Heat could get pretty tough, but I believe the Wiz have a good chance to go deep in the playoffs this year.

No, no defense, no bench. Wiz will be 1 and out come playoffs and management (Grunfeild) is doing absolutely nothing to improve the bench either. Miami will probably go to the finals again.

Re: Can Wiz win the East?
Until some defense is stressed as much or more than the offense then the Wizards don't have more than a small chance to win the Championship. Teams with experience and chemistry will always beat them in a seven-game series (ex: Pistons, Spurs).
I think the management should try to bring in a defensive minded assistant coach if they are going to stick with Eddie Jordan (who I still don't trust).

Re: Can Wiz win the East?
I don't see the Wizards going far in the playoffs with the way our defense has been. The big three have done a great job disguising our defense with it's great 70+ ppg offense, but it won't last long in the post-season like it did last season if they don't play some defense or if they can't take over in crunch time. We have shown that we can beat times like the Pistons, Magic, and Cavaliers, but the playoffs is a lot different than the regular season having to play a 7 game series, so adjustments are vital there.

^^^. All true.
They might be able to win the east if the Heat don't get it together soon enough and you run off on a streak, but the defense, particularly inside is gonna render their season pointless.

It's not even the defense inside, if anything, they've played ok this season. It's been our perimeter defense that's hurt us so badly this season. I think any Wizards fan would know that if you can shoot, you can beat this team. You look back games against the depleted Nuggets (w/o Melo, AI, and Smith) having to watch Diawara and Boykins take over the game and the game last night against the depleted Hornets, you look at guys like Butler, Pargo and Mason shoot lights out. I think we are still last in 3 point percentage on defense.

Re: Can Wiz win the East?
This board is so pessimistic. I look at the Suns playoff success and I see the Wiz on the verge of doing something similar either this or next year.

Re: Can Wiz win the East?
Suns has one of the best defenses despite giving up over 100 points a game, just look at their opponents fg's and 3p' percentages, also their victory margin. Wizards can only dream of doing that with EJ as the coach.
