Arenas made the bets as he bantered with fans throughout the Wizards' 100-98 loss. He was booed during pregame introductions and whenever he touched the ball because he had promised to score 50 points against the Trail Blazers.

After the game, Arenas said he bet a fan $10 that he would make the winning basket. He missed badly -- throwing up a shot that fell short of the rim -- and finished with only 19 points.

"I owe somebody 10 bucks," Arenas said. "I bet a fan if I had a chance I would make the last shot."

Arenas later elaborated on his nba.com blog, saying that he made $10 bets with two fans during the game and had obtained their e-mail addresses so that he could pay them off. The NBA since has removed the references to the bets from the blog.

Arenas was not available for comment Sunday, a day off for the Wizards during their West Coast road trip.

What's the harm in this? He's just having fun. Why don't they scold Charles Barkley betting over 2 million dollars or others with gambling addictions?

I just put this in the main forum now, too. It's funny as hell, but I can understand how the NBA has to take a no-tolerance policy towards any form of gambling. It's not like they fined him or anything.

Both of you need to either stop joking around or get a clue. If you dont see how the NBA would have problems with this than you both need more help than anyone here can offer. Sure its only $10 but gil is still making bets on games he is playing in (that there is the difference between him and barkley). Where do you draw the line after this?? You can bet on games, but, only ones you dont play in? You can bet on games but you have to keep the toal under $58.35 (or some random arbitrary number thrown out there)?

The NBA has enough problems as is with people saying games and/or refferees are fixed, the last thing they need is a potential point shaving scandal with players making stupid bets before games. Now do i think Gil would actually be involved in point shaving? OR COURSE NOT! But why even put yourself in such a horrible posistion?

On top of that, one of their marketable stars asking the customers for money isn't good.
