No Question : Jamison must go
I know what you are thinking right now, but, please believe me when i say that it is even harder to say than it is to hear. Espically for someone who is a huge jamison fan. But the fact is this team is coming up on a major intersection and need to decide if they want to try and make this team a real contender of if they just want to stop here and make a uturn back to good ol bulletsville. If this team comes into this season with no major changes and once again is only a mid level eastern conference team than i think gilbert is as good as gone. Yes, he will still have one more year before his player option but by that time i think he will already be mentally packed up and it will just be too little too late.
My subject line may be misleading because its not like i am blaming jamison for our late season decline. The fact is that he and butler are the only tradeable assets on the team with any value. While caron has established himself as an allstar caliber player here in dc does anyone really think there is a big trade market for him?? The most valuable trade commodity the wizards have is Jamison and his 17mil expiring contract.
I saw some rumors talking about trying to trade him to portland for zach randolph. I am not a big fan of smoky but I imagine that they will be trying to unload him as quickly as possible now that they have aldridge and oden. If they could get some other youngsters from the blazers i could be talked into it but i would much rather have them go after jermaine oneal or gasol (my #1 option).
my dream scenario:
trade jamison, cb4, haywood, and pick
for
gasol + mike miller + more
1 - arenas / antonio daniels
2 - stevenson / arenas
3 - miller / blatche / pecherov
4 - etan / songalia / pecherov
5 - gasol / ruffin
i really like the idea of picking up a mike miller type while trading away jamison. I think his ability as a big man to handle the ball will help out our nontraditional PG and his passing/shooting skills would do great in the princeton offense

Re: No Question : Jamison must go
I'm a Gasol fan, but Butler brings too much to this team. I'm all for trading Jamison, but it's just unreal at this moment. He isn't a star anymore, and we could really use a dominant big-man. However, what big-man would anyone trade for him?

Butler does bring alot of energy and excitement to the wiz but i think he would needed to be included in order to make this particular trade happen. I think the addition of mike miller and the increased playing time for AD (who showed he deserved it) more than make up for his loss though.
Jamison is no less of a star than he was when he came here from dallas (which wasnt that bright to begin with) so i dont see your point there. Sure jamison has lost a step in the past 2 years but any team trading for him is more interested in his 17 million coming off the books than they are in having him lead them to the playoffs. Also dont underestimate the impact a player like jamison can have on a young team that is committed to rebuilding. He still has a strong enough game where he can sell some jerseys and at the same time take some young'ns under his wing and show them how to play.

Re: No Question : Jamison must go
you said yourself that we need a dominant big man. We have 2 options, either trade our assets now while their value is high or we sit back and hope we hit the lottery and get a dominant big man with the MLE or with the 14th-20th pick in the draft.

Re: No Question : Jamison must go
I would be willing to part with Jamison, Haywood, and a pick for Gasol (and a filler to match the salaries) but I would not want to give up Caron Butler, who is probably going to get even better over the next few years. Maybe the Wizards have already found a big man for the future with Pecherov. If Blatche adds a mid range game and cuts down on rookie mistakes, he could be seen as someone to solve the Wizards problems down low.
Solid big men can be found later in the draft
2006- Paul Millsap, 2nd round
2005- David Lee, Jason Maxiell (late first round)
Still, the Wizards also need to address their need at shooting guard. More likely than not, it will take time for the Wizards to become championship contender.

Re: No Question : Jamison must go
I wouldn't want to trade Butler, and I am not sure that the trade for Gasol makes the Wizards better as a team. They would definitely be different, but defensively they wouldn't necessarily improve, and offensively, having 20 points come from the post vs the wing doesn't necessarily make things better. Its close though, I'd probably do it for O'neal and not Gasol.
I think Arenas + O'neal would be very good. But there are a ton of gaps if Butler and Jamison go with only O'neal returning.
Fill in the Blanks, O'neal doesn't really fit our lineup:
PG: Arenas
SG:
SF:
PF: O'neal
C:

Re: No Question : Jamison must go
I'd love to see all of the big 3 stick around for a while. If Caron and Gil would have stayed healthy this season, I pretty sure we could have gotten the 2 or 3 seed and made a lot of noise in the playoffs. I could have seen the Wiz knocking off Cleveland and we've been playing Detroit pretty close lately. I think our line-up is pretty good, and if we can get a nice big man out of the draft, we'll do pretty well next year assuming there are no injuries.

Stick with the draft, and the MLE for big-men.
