Re: Gilbert Arenas?
Gilbert Arenas, who averaged 28.4 points last year, could lead the league in scoring this season — resulting in thousands of dollars for schools.
The Washington Wizards All-Star will donate $100 for every point he scores at home to 41 schools in Washington, Virginia and Maryland. Wizards owner Abe Pollin partners with Arenas in his Scores for Schools program and donates $100 to another 41 schools for each point Arenas scores on the road.
Last season was the first year of Arenas' program, which netted $215,000. About 1,200 students from 240 schools filled the Verizon Center court Monday hoping their school would be selected in a random drawing. For the 158 schools not selected, Arenas made a surprise donation of $1,000 to each of them, saying, "I saw how excited the kids were, so I didn't want any of them to go home feeling disappointed."
