Charlotte Bobcats @ Washington Wizards, Feb 23: 2008, 7:00 pm
Quote:
The Wizards stood still at the trading deadline, an indication that the front office believes that the team, when healthy can still be a good team come playoff time. And when was the last time that was the case?
The Wizards have lost 10 of their last 11 games and are still desperately waiting for the return of forward Caron Butler, still out with a hip flexor injury. They get a bit of respite from the schedule when they host a bad Charlotte team Saturday that will be without Gerald Wallace. However, after Saturday, they hit the road again for games at New Orleans, Chicago and Houston.
Cavaliers 90, Wizards 89: Just how badly dinged up the Wizards are became evident in the final play of their latest loss.
Down by one point on their last possession with a chance to win, Wizards coach Eddie Jordan called a play for DeShawn Stevenson on the team’s final possession. Unfortunately for the Wizards, Stevenson’s runner hit the top of the backboard and rolled harmlessly off as time expired.
Darius Songaila led the Wizards with 19 points off the bench. Stevenson added 18 points and Antawn Jamison finished with 16 points.
The Cavs, who re-shuffled their roster at the trade deadline, were led by LeBron James’ 33 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists.
Notes, Quotes
• F Caron Butler is a game-time decision for Saturday’s game vs. Charlotte.
• G Antonio Daniels suffered a write injury in a fall against Cleveland and could miss Saturday’s game.
• F Antawn Jamison finished with nine rebounds to barely miss his 31st double-double of the season.
• G Gilbert Arenas still maintains he will return to the team in early March. Sources in the organization contend that it might be a little bit longer than that. They don’t want to push Arenas’ injured knee until they feel he is completely ready to return.
Roster Report
Rotation: Starters—Point guard Antonio Daniels, Shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson, Small forward Andray Blatche, Power forward Antawn Jamison, Center Brendan Haywood. Bench—Guard Nick Young, Forward Darius Songaila, Guard Roger Mason, Forward Dominic McGuire.
Quote To Note: “Our performance was very disappointing. No enthusiasm, no intensity. We gave ourselves a chance but that’s just water under the bridge right now.”—Wizard coach Eddie Jordan following the Wizards’ loss to the Cavaliers.
Player Notes:
• G Roger Mason, usually solid off the bench, was 1-for-4 from the field and scored just three points in 20 minutes against the Cavs.
• F Darius Songaila scored season-high 19 points versus the Cavs.
• F Oleksiy Pecherov didn’t see any action against Cleveland.

Finally a win, good effort from the whole team and they actually closed out a game. Tough games coming up with New Orleans and Houston, Steve and Phil mention that Butler may not return until March 2.
