Offseason goals

Other than convincing Gilbert to exercise his player option what must the wiz accomplish to move to the next level? Think the wiz really missed a huge oppurtunity by letting the trade deadline pass without dealing Jamison and his expiring contract for some more talent. If the package of kwame brown, crittenton, and some picks gets you pau gasol what does jamison, nick young, and some more draft picks get you??

If you were GM what moves are you looking to make, what positions can we realistically improve on? anyone specific you look to bring in?

Who other than gil and caron really has any trade value to help us bring in more talent?

Re: Offseason goals

Keep Jamison, I realize he is old, but for the past two seasons he has been the heart and soul of this team. A leader in the locker room, a leader in the community and a leader on the court. Ernie seems to be very high on keeping up the good chemistry this team has. In the off-season we need to move Haywood. Darius could start at center if neither Blatche or Pecherov have stepped up by then. So even if we don't get a big in return we are fine. We need to sign Gilbert, either so he comes back or we could then trade him. We can't let him leave for nothing. The Wizards are a great team, we just need to be healthy. So maybe in the off-season we should hire a few doctors, other than that stay as is.

Great plan if our goal for next year is another.500 season, a 4-8 playoff seed, and an early playoff exit.

Re: Offseason goals

Well their first goal should be to keep Arenas. I'm all for keeping Jamison if his contract is reasonable but I would not rule out the possibility of a sign and trade or letting him go altogether if his demands become too steep.

The Wizards should also wait and see which other players may become available at the end of the season. Teams will look to make a move if their season ended in a disappointing matter and will often times undervalue their own players.

For the draft, the Wizards should take the best player available regardless of position who fits in with the Wizards. For instance, the Wizards may not need a point guard now but it will allow for the possibility to trade for Antonio Daniels.

I would also be reluctant to trade Young, McGuire, and Pecherov since they will most likely get better in their 2nd season and their value would most likely improve.

I hope the Wizards are able to get a quality free agent using the Mid level exception. Maybe the Wizards can open their pockets a little more and take the luxury tax hit to become a better team.
