The move was a slam dunk for the Wizards. Knight's $5 million salary comes off the books this summer. That should put the Wizards about $5 million under the cap for next season. If they can sweet talk the Bobcats into taking local product Christian Laettner in the expansion draft this spring, the Wizards could be as much as $11 million under the cap next summer and get themselves in the running for another top free agent.
The Bobcats very well could take L8. He is a hometown boy, only would have one year on his contract, is a solid veteran and I think Bikerstaff is find of him.
This would be a good thing for the future of this team. I like L8 but after this year we shouldn't need him much.

I think Charlottle would snatch him right up if we left him open. He's a solid big man, a good veteran prescence on the court, and has an expiring contract. I too like Christian, but I think his role will be more or less gone by next season (though to be fair, I thought it would be very little this season and that hasn't been true so far), which would make him a prime candidate for the expansion draft.
If Etan is a RFA and we don't protect him and Charlotte picks him, he becomes an unrestricted FA. If he's an UFA, then we can't protect him and they can't pick him. I don't know which one he is, but if he's a RFA, we probably need to protect him so he doesn't become unrestricted. However, a lot of this depends on what his approx. market value is, how much he wants to stay with us, and other factors that we can't guess at this time.
