"I have talked to Patrick," Jordan said. "He won't be playing."

I don't think it gets any more direct than that comment.

I hope he means it. At least he didn't give it his 99.99% gurantee. Then I would be really scared.

Well, I don't want Ewing as a full time player, but if they did face an injury crisis at center, he's probably still better than a schmoe off the street.

Not coincidentally, it's not inconceivable that we will face an injury crisis at center. Jahidi will be on the IL to start the season and possibly not in playing shape. Haywood's knee totally sapped him at the end of last year, and apparently still was causing him problems in Boston.

That leaves us with Laettner (ugh), Kwame, and Etan, none of whom really seem to be natural centers.

Actually, I'd hope we give that Varda kid we got from Detroit a chance to make the team. He's got size and he's young, so why not hang on to him?

With Popeye gone, I would hope Varda at least gets a shot. He is going to be paid regardless so it makes sense to at least hold onto him until you know what you want to do with him.

From what I've been reading, Varda is decent. He's strong and he has a nice touch. I think its worth giving him a shot.

I have a feeling he was about as injured as Bobby Simmons was last year.

Which means very little considering how well Kwame played last year in summer league. Kwame came back from injury and actually did ok this year as well, but we know that it is all about regular season.
