Brevin Knight bought out; Lonny Baxter may be brought in
Brevin Knight had his contract bought out and will be free to sign with another team for the playoffs according to the Wizards' post game show on WTEM. This is similar to what they did for Strickland.
Lonny Baxter was at the Wizards Hornets game and the word is the Wizards may sign him for the rest of the season.

Lonny Baxter? What is wrong with this team? So, we grab another hometown guy, and here's what happens: the fans grow angry because their hometown hero isn't playing. You've heard the angry fans who wonder why Juan doesn't play more, and now the same thing will happen with Lonny, provided he signs.
Plus, why bring him in to take time away from our two legit PFs, Kwame and Etan? Lord knows, they could use the remaining six weeks of the season to develop. What is Lonny, like 6'6" anyway? If the Wizards don't sign him, he doesn't play in the NBA ever again, he'll make his money in Europe.

Should the Lakers sign Latrell Sprewell?

Fine with me on both sides. If we didn't plan on resigning Knight, might as well let him go to another team for the playoffs as well as give Blake 100% control of the backup PG spot. I don't really care who we bring in to replace him, so Baxter is just fine. He'll get very few minutes, probably only when there's injuries or foul trouble.

I must say I am glad we made a choice with one of the backup PGs- the obvious answer is Blake, we can see what he is made of during the final part of this year and decide whether he can handle the backup role. We know what Brevin is capable of, but we know he wasn't the long term plans. Portland could use a backup PG, I don't think my man Dickau has the skills...of course that would leave Portland with the shortest PG combo in the history of basketball.

It's Byron.
People can (and will, I'm sure) make all the jokes about us bringing in the MD guys, but it's not like we're picking up guys who can't play in the NBA. Although you can certainly tell that Blake is a rookie out there, he looks like he could be an effective backup PG for us for years to come -- assuming we can hold on to him for that long. If Dixon can ever figure out a way to knock his FG and 3P percentages up by a couple of points, he could be a major player in this league. Not an all-star or anything like that, but maybe a sixth man of the year candidate. Baxter isn't the quality that those two are, but when you're bringing him in to be your 12th man, you could do worse than his 4/3/0.5 BPG in 12 MPG.

Steve Buchantz was talking up Lonny Baxter last night saying that he is a really great player and the wizards should pick him up... lol.
"It was a performance that he should relish," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "It was a playoff atmosphere. It remains to be seen if we'll get there, but it was a playoff atmosphere. We had a taste of it tonight, and Gilbert was the guy that carried us from beginning to end."
EJ you still think we can get to the playoffs!? haha a little too optimistic.

Wiz should've traded BK for Lamond Murray and Baxter...
Oh, a good sign could be Ron Mercer

Lonny to the Wiz, eh? Well, as long as my main man has a job in the NBA(which he definitely has proved he deserves), I'm happy. He'll be good for the Wiz, only used in emergency situations behind Kwame, Etan, Haywood, Laettner and Jeffries, but he'll give you 100% effort on both ends of the court. I think if he stays in Washington he'd be a useful player to have around on and off the court. Best of luck to Lonny
