I think the statement was that you cant be a fair judge of potential until the 3rd season. By McGrady's 3rd season he was putting up good numbers, but not all star numbers. He was a hot commodity as a free agent after 3 seasons because gms could then see how good he was about to become, and he became every bit of that. So I dont think they meant that they would become superstars by 3 years but more-so, by 3 seasons we would be able to tell if they have it in them to become super stars.
