PTI: Wilbon says we should trade for Iverson
they were talking on PTI tonight about Iverson and Wilbon mentioned we should trade Arenas and our 1st rounder for him.......what do you guys think? I don't really like it, I'd rather have Arenas and Okafor then Iverson

No, I think Iverson is getting a little old and Arenas already showed signs of becoming a star in this league and hes only 22 years old. IMO Iverson already passed his prime.

A big no thanks from me. I wouldn't trade either Arenas or our first rounder straight up for him, and I'm not exaggerating. As I've outlined in other threads involving Iverson, I just can't accept his contract. Five years beyond this one, the last two of which will pay him about $40 million, when in my opinion he is only going to get worse from here on out. Sure, maybe over the next season or two he still is a top flight player, but what about four or five seasons from now? The last thing I want to see is an aging superstar who has become a shell of his former self eating up 40% of our cap.
Honestly, I think Arenas could be just as good if not better than Iverson as early as next season. It may sound like a leap, but with Arenas getting better and Iverson getting worse, it wouldn't shock me at all. Even if you don't believe that, Arenas will certainly be the better player three years from now. What would we be saying when Arenas is leading Philly into the playoffs and Iverson is putting up 20 PPG on 37% shooting three years from now? Factor in our first round pick as well, and I just don't even consider it.

Trading Arenas would be a mistake. Let's hope the Wizards organization is that stupid. I don't see anyone offering up the goods for Iverson. Can he even lead a team to the Finals anymore? It has been 3 years since.

Considering the makeup of the team, trading Arenas for Iverson could be a pretty quick payoff.
I doubt that Arenas will ever be better than Iverson. Iverson at Arenas age was much better.
I think Iverson's stock is at it's lowest right now, so this summer is the only shot at getting him.
People should note that the olympics probably played a huge role in Iverson breaking down when he did. In addition to the lack of help he had from his teammates the first 2/3rds of the season.
He was an early MVP candidate with Baron Davis. Whoever looks past how he finished the season, could be in for a pleasant suprise next year.

This would be a stupid mistake. Even if Arenas isn't going to be as good as Iverson, the fact is that he's 22 and he will give you more in the next 10 years than Iverson will.
And then your throwing in Okafor...which makes it much worse. That would seriously be giving up potentially one of the best PG's in the league and a possible 20 and 10 guy for little AI.
AI doesn't even fit the makeup of the team anyways. This is a young team with scorers, we don't need AI, we need defensive players. We are not the kind of team that has roleplayers you put next to AI. We have Larry Hughes, Kwame, and Stack..guys that need the ball.

Arenas is way too valuable to trade for a skill-whining superstar. He has so much upside it's not even funny. Coach EJ is taking Arenas to see Kidd and Marbury battle in their playoff series so he will learn how to be a great passer like Kidd and how to be a scoring PG like Marbury. He can only get better.
