Trade with portland

Hello east coasters. Here on the Portland board we discuss certain ways to improve our team. One of them has been trying to figure out how to get your pick. Portland has the #13 & #24 picks in this years draft along with Shareef Abdur-Rahim who they need to trade because he can't get any minutes behind Zach Randolph. Our pressing need is at both guard possitions. Just wondering if any of you have some thoughts on a possible trade.

how about a straight trade: Stackhouse for Shareef. or if Portland doesn't like it, we could add Dixon in it to give you more depth. while Shareef isn't a great scorer, he had great defense which we need badly.

Rahim makes about twice what Stackhouse does. We'd have to send Laettner as well, which does work. If they don't mind Stackhouse's contract length (3 years, $22 million), I would hope that'd be enough. They add a starter at a position of weakness for a backup at a position of strength. They also would still have about $6 million worth of expiring contract in Laettner, which would either be used in a deadline deal or could go away in the offseason. I could easily part with Dixon as well though if that needed to be done.

However, I only would do that if Kwame was willing to make the full time move to center. I don't have any interest in bringing in a player to compete with Kwame, especially during this upcoming season, which should be the most important in his career. Rahim's offensive playing style would also have to be taken into consideration. I have not seen enough of him to make a judgement, but again, I would not want him to compete with Kwame on the offensive end. Kwame is pretty much a post up, inside 15 feet only player at this point -- if Rahim also works in a similar way, then I don't know if it'd be too smart of an idea to bring him in.

How can I say this politely H E double toothpicks. Heck no.

Raheem is a losing player much like Larry Hughes. He gives nice number not much defensively as far as shot blocking and is butta soft. Parkay. No thanks.

I think MJG is right on the money.

if... Portland would settle for Stack and Laettner

if... Kwame wants to move inside

then it makes some sense.

The Blazers fans have been marketing Shareef pretty heavily here the last couple of months, but I don't think he's worth what they think he's worth.

Neither do I. I think his value to most teams would more be the expiring contract as opposed to his actual play. I mean he is obviously a pretty good player, but he really hasn't shown himself to be a difference maker anywhere he's played. However, almost all fans seem to overrate their own players' worth (I'm sure many of us are guilty of it as well), so it's not a surprise.

To be fair, just about everybody on the Wizards are losing players. Arenas and Kwame have never been on winning teams either and Stack has made the playoffs twice in 9 years.

Yeah, but jazzy1 has got it right when he says that Shareef is parkay.

As one of only rational Balzer fans when it comes to trades and the value of our players, I think a few of you hit it right on the head. SAR is not a great defender, but he can score. He is an incredible locker room guy, but to say he is a loser is wrong. Look at the teams he has been on. He has been the cornerstone of two franchises that didn't put other quality pieces around him.

I don't know much about Stackhouse's game or off-court life, but he can't be worse than Derek Anderson. I honestly think that's the type of player Portland fans should be thinking about instead of T Mac, Pierce, or Ray Allen.
