Arenas to the Clips for #2?
Last year, the Clippers were willing to pay Arenas the same price we were. Would they be willing to do it now?

Why would Washington do that? Who would they want to take with two top 5 picks? I'm assuming they take Livingston with one of them since they need a PG after giving up Arenas, but who with the other one? Biedrins? Maybe Deng? Great deal for the Clippers though...

Well, I'm personally not too sold on Arenas. The more I saw, the less I liked. Which of these conclusions are in dispute:
* Indifferent defender
* Headcase
* Turnover machine
* Years away from being a real PG
* Doesn't seem to get along with the team's other lynchpin (Kwame)
Yeah, I do hold hope that is attitude will get better. He does love to compete, and I think ultimately he wants to win games. But I could also see him not getting it the way he often didn't buy in this season, and that's not a good thing to contemplate when we owe this guy another $55M or so.
Here's the thing. I'm not yet sure, but I'm intrigued by the idea of a Dwight/Kwame front line. Unproven rookie or not, if Howard comes in and can play pretty well, we've got a sickeningly good looking front line.
Plus, we've still got the 5th pick, which we can potentially use on a guy like Iggy, Gordon or Livingston.
The other thing about this deal is that the Clippers are taking on Arenas' without giving much salary back (they're under the cap). This means we could end up with something like $7-8M in free agent money to spend. Maybe that gets us a Carlos Arroyo and Eric Williams.
1- Arroyo, Blake, Livingston
2- Hughes, Hayes
3- Stackhouse, Williams
4- Howard, Thomas, Laettner
5- Kwame, Haywood
To me, that looks like a team that's stacked for the future. Arroyo is a tough kid. Williams is tough. Howard, I think, will prove a hard-nosed player. Couple them up with Hughes, Stack, Hayes, and Kwame and you've got a lot going on. 3 years down the road, what in the league can defend a Howard and Kwame front line? Livinston in that situation is a long-term gamble, but I think we could afford to do it and we'd have a sick set of guys to throw the ball into Howard and Kwame.

Arenas is young and still making the transition to point guard. He is still one of the best young point guards in the league and one hell of a scorer. He has a very bright future and to trade him for the number 2 pick in a weak draft would not be a good idea. The number 2 pick, which would be Dwight Howard is an almost carbon copy clone of Kwame Brown. Do you really want another Kwame? Yeah Kwame isn't a bust yet but we don't know if he will be a success either. I would stick with keeping the sure thing in Arenas. Sure he has his attitude problems but usually his complaining was because the team was not winning. He is competitive, a good scorer and will be a very good point guard. Don't let him go.

I'm not ready to reload yet. Giving up Arenas for Howard is essentially reloading. I'm not sure I believe in Howard talent that much.
I have concerns about Arenas also. Serious concerns. His moodiness and I'll do it myself mentality bother me. But I think good coaching could channel that mindset.
I really don't have a grip on how good a team we have because of the injuries. I'm not sold like some are that when healthy everything would be fine. They played just a few games together and thats just not enough time to say oh yeah they work fine.
I say keep Arenas unless you have the chance to get a legit superstar.
Howard has alot of the young Vin BaKer feel to me and I wasn't thrilled with the young Baker.
Stay at 5 and get the best player. Really don't like giving up proven players for anyone in this draft.
What I fear is that someone drafting in the teens or 20's is going to get this drafts best player.
Giving up Vets for potential don't appeal to me in a weak draft.

Arenas for the 2nd pick would be one of the worst trades ever. Arenas is 22, any faults he has can be worked on. The positives of his game outwiegh any negatives. I think he literally has the potential to be a top 10 player in the league. Trading him for an unproven high schooler or Deng is just terrible. Building around Gilbert and Kwame is the best thing the franchise can do.
Theirs no other young PG in the league I would rather have than Arenas. I would only trade him for an all-star. Even then, I love the kids competitiveness, and the fact that he's a gym rat.

I highly doubt that that happens.
This would be the same kind of deal that the Bulls did with the Clippers in the 2001 draft (Elton Brand for the #2 pick). It has "nightmare" written all over it for the Wizards.
IMO, the trade would have to be...
Arenas
FOR
#2
Ely
Jaric
Not because it makes the deal a lot sweeter for the Wizards, the Clippers just need to trade Ely.

I dont think the Wizards should trade Arenas for any player in this draft except Okafor, given their curent team situation and draft standing. Arenas is a young player who can score in the bunches and could become a great complement to Kwame. I also dont wanna trade for a player who insists on his ability of being able to possible play SF in the NBA.
