The Cartersville Warriors made their debut a successful one Thursday night, beating the Anderson (S.C.) Heat, 135-122, in World Basketball Association action at the J.H. Morgan Gym on Aubrey Street.
Cartersville (3-2) got off to a slow start and only led 21-20 after the opening quarter and the Heat made a run to lead by seven early in the second period. However, the Warriors went to a trapping defense that sparked an 18-2 run, allowing Cartersville to outscore Anderson 44-30 in the frame and take a 65-50 lead into the halftime break.
"We started out slow and I think that was because we were on a smaller court," said Cartersville coach David Archer. "It was difficult to get into some of our offensive sets and Anderson came out shooting the ball well.
