Musicians win fifth home game with 110-97 victory over Heat

The Murfreesboro Musicians defeated the Anderson Heat 110-97 to go 5-1 at home for the WBA season thus far.

Murfreesboro was led once again by Cedric McGinnis with 35 points and 12 rebounds. McGinnis was dominate inside once again by following up last week's 41 point performance vs Arkansas with another dominating game for the Musicians on Friday night at Musicians Arena at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro.

Guard, Tommy Gunn once again had a banner performance for the Musicians with 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assist. Forward, Will Pippin again complimented McGinnis and Gunn by chipping in a 25 point and 8 rebound performance. Dameon Goodman and Nick Clark followed with 10 and 9 points respectively.

Musicians Head Coach Steve Tucker is happy with the progress of his team. "We're starting to get into a flow! McGinnis, Gunn, & Pippin are playing at an extremely high level, and they should get good looks from the NBA for the way they are playing right now. But I'm most pleased with the development of our younger players! Players like Dameon Goodman, Nick Clark, Dexter Hall, Ritchie Stevens, Will Thomas, Fats Cuyler, and Ray Trowell. These players are really coming on for us and they've made marked improvement since we began training camp back the first of April. It is a team game and everyone has a role on a team and that is what we are seeing here. We are seeing a young team starting to develop and that is what makes me the happiest right now about the way we are playing. Now we just have to become consistent with it!"

The Musicians will go on the road on June 2nd to Cleveland, TN to face the Cleveland Majic. The Musicians are 1-1 vs the Majic this season. The next Musicians home game at Musicians Arena will be June 9th, when the Musicians will host the Druid City Dragons from Tuscaloosa, AL. Tip-off for the game will be at 7pm.

MUSICIANS NOTES:

* MUSICIANS MOVE INTO SECOND PLACE IN THE WBA WESTERN DIVISION! The Murfreesboro Musicians moved into second place behind the Mississippi Hardhats in the WBA's Western Division. The WBA has realigned for the second half of the 2006 WBA Season. Mississippi, Murfreesboro, Druid City, North Mississippi, and Arkansas make up the Western Division of the WBA, while Rome, GA, Cleveland, TN, Marietta, GA, Cartersville, GA, and Anderson, SC make up the WBA's Eastern Division.

* Musicians Guard, Tommy Gunn has been contacted by the NBA's Atlanta Hawks about continuing his play later this summer with the Hawks Summer League Team that will play in NBA Summer Leagues in Orlando, FL, Boston, MASS, Salt Lake City, UT, and Los Angeles, CA. Gunn leads the Musicians in scoring with a 27.8 ppg average. Gunn has been outstanding for the Musicians all season.

* The Musicians have been contacted by several NBA Teams about Center/Forward, Cedric McGinnis and Forward, Will Pippin. Both McGinnis and Pippin are on several NBA Teams player boards as teams look to fill their rosters for NBA Summer Leagues later this summer.

* Rookie Player, Dexter Hall will be added to the NBA D League Player Pool for the 2006-07 D League Season. The NBA D League plays during the traditional basketball season and players playing in the WBA right now are playing for the opportunity to get directly to the NBA or to make sure they are on a D League Roster this fall. Hall, who is a 6'9 Power Forward/Center for the Musicians has shown great progress and promise over the course of this WBA Season.
