Cartersville might not have a lot in common with Atlanta, Boston or Chicago, but there is one thing that all those cities have: a professional basketball team.
The Cartersville Warriors, a franchise in the World Basketball Association, recently came to town after starting the season as the Griffin Warriors. The Warriors are 7-3, sit near the top of the Eastern Division standings and are ranked sixth in this week's Minor League Power Rankings by the ProBasketballNews.com Website.
Warriors head coach/general manager David Archer Jr. said the franchise has taken a long and winding road to Cartersville.
"This is actually the team that was the Macon Blaze last year," said Archer. "They wanted to move to Griffin and were in the process of getting everything approved, but some of the paperwork wasn't presented in time. The owners at that time got frustrated and decided to back away from it. The WBA office found another owner and when the new owner (Gerald Williams) went through the process again, it was too late. The city of Griffin wasn't cooperative and the decision was made to try and come to Cartersville.
