High-school rewind: As a senior, Starbird averaged 29.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 4.6 steals, and 3.5 blocks and was named Parade All-American and The Seattle Times Female High School Player of the Year.
After high school: The 6-foot-1 Starbird led the Cardinals to three consecutive Final Four appearances, was twice Pac-10 Player of the Year and won the Naismith Award as the nation's top player. Her 2,215 career points remains the school's scoring record.
After athletics: Starbird played in the now-defunct ABL with the Seattle Reign, then joined the WNBA in 1999, playing for five teams, including the Seattle Storm. She also played in Austria, France and Spain.
Personal: Starbird, 30, lives and plays in Ibiza, Spain.
