"I'm still trying to get over jet lag and time difference," she said.
There was little evidence of that in the Fever's 89-84 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks in Thursday's preseason game at Conseco Fieldhouse.
DeForge scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and led the Fever in rebounds (seven) and assists (four). She joined the Fever from Poland, where she was league MVP. She was also second in scoring in the prestigious EuroLeague with an 18.8-point average.
She does not resemble the player who was cut during WNBA camps in 2001 and '02. She spent those two years training under Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. It was a total makeover, DeForge said.
"I was good in college, but I wasn't good enough for the pros," said DeForge, 30, a former All-Big 12 player at Nebraska. "I worked on my game, changed my footwork, changed the fundamentals. I changed everything about my game.
"It took awhile. I am who I am now."
