Late in the fourth quarter of the exhibition game against the Charlotte Sting, Silver Stars coach Dan Hughes turned to his bench and observed matter-of-factly, "We're tired."
The evidence of such fatigue was right there on the court — in the fourth quarter. The Silver Stars made just one field goal and committed seven turnovers as the Sting came from behind for a 71-70 victory at the AT&T Center.
The Silver Stars, who played three games in the previous six days, finished their exhibition schedule 1-2. They open the regular season in Houston on May 21.
"We didn't make plays down the stretch," Hughes said. "We've got a lot of work to do, but that's why we play these (preseason) games. We know what we have to work on."
Two areas are particularly glaring for the Silver Stars — turnovers and defensive rebounding. On Friday, they had 22 turnovers (they totaled 64 in the three preseason games) and surrendered 18 offensive rebounds to Charlotte.
