Amber Jacobs was in for the fight of her basketball career when she began her third training camp with the Minnesota Lynx last month. With a deep pool of talented guards, Jacobs was no shoo-in to make a Lynx roster filled with youth and high expectations.
"Coming into this training camp, with all things being equal, she was on the bubble,'' Lynx coach Suzie McConnell said. "She was going to have to come in and really shake things up.''
Jacobs, 23, has not only saved her job, she has a strong hold on on a starting spot.
Jacobs scored 13 points and had seven assists in Minnesota's 84-75 victory over the Seattle Storm on Saturday night at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion in the Lynx's final exhibition game.
"There has been a fire and fight in me (this training camp),'' Jacobs said. "I knew this would be a competitive fight. I came into this season wanting to prove that I can be a valuable asset to this team.''
"A.J. has come into this season a different player,'' McConnell Serio said. "She has come in with a sense of purpose and has taken a leadership role. She has competed at a high level and has absolutely thrived.''
