When you are one of the most successful and visible female television commentators in the business, why return to the WNBA to play basketball again?
"Because I can,'' Stacey Dales said. "My mind and my body are still capable of playing, and I have the rare opportunity to do it. I don't ever want to look back and say, 'Why didn't you play?'''
Dales -- a 6-foot combination point guard, shooting guard and small forward -- is the biggest name on the expansion Sky, which will open its initial campaign Saturday night in Charlotte, N.C.
Dales, a native of Brockville, Ontario, led her high school team to three straight Ontario AA championships. After suffering an ACL tear as a freshman, she came back and was a two-time All-American at Oklahoma, leading the Sooners to the 2002 title game. She was a Canadian Olympian and a WNBA All-Star for the Washington Mystics.
