Seattle Storm starting center Janell Burse, who aggravated a shoulder injury last week, was shooting baskets as practice ended Monday.
But that doesn’t mean she’ll suit up when Seattle opens its season at 6 p.m. Sunday against Los Angeles at KeyArena.
“I’m planning on (her not playing),” Seattle coach Anne Donovan said after practice. “If she were to come back, it would be a pleasant surprise. Her range of motion is there but I have no idea when to expect her back. She’s moving in the right direction.”
Burse aggravated the partial tear of the labrum in her left shoulder during practice May 8 after initially injuring it in early April while playing in the Czech Republic.
She sat out the first week of camp before practicing May 1, and played in Seattle’s first exhibition game May 7, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds in 21 minutes against New York.
Forward Wendy Palmer, a 10-year veteran who signed with the Storm as a free agent during the offseason, will likely start in her place.
