NEW YORK (August 10, 2006) - With seven of the eight possible teams already securing 2006 WNBA Playoff berths, the schedule for the first round was announced this week by the WNBA. The Playoffs will begin on Thursday, August 17.

Connecticut, which has clinched the top spot in the Eastern Conference and home court advantage throughout the playoffs by virtue of the League's best record, will tip off its series against the Mystics in Washington on Friday, August 18 at 7 p.m. on NBA TV. Game 2 will be played in Connecticut on Sunday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m. on ABC with Game 3 - if necessary - at Connecticut on Tuesday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. on NBA TV.

Also in the East, Indiana and Detroit have also secured playoff berths and face each other in round one. Results from games played this final weekend will determine the #2 and #3 seeds in that series. In the West, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Seattle have secured playoff berths while Houston and Phoenix are playing for the final playoff spot. Los Angeles is locked in at the #1 seed and Sacramento claims the #2 seed, but the other two have not yet been determined.
