Re: WWE Night of Champions Discussion/Prediction Thread
Saw it live at a friends house. Great show, man. Outside of having to sit through Rhodes, every match was at the very least good, though Cena should have hit the FU out of the Crossface for the win.

I'll just always try to compare it to their feud in 02-03 which was outstanding.
Their match at WM 19 was amazing.

Dude, this feud has been one of the best feuds in wrestling in a long, long time. The promos are all top notch. Their match a month or so ago was fantastic, too.

Yeah, I can see your point, but nothing these two can possibly do will ever top what they did 5-6 years ago.
At least in my view.
I'd probably enjoy it more if I stopped trying to compare the two.

Yeah I was baffled when I heard HHH won.

Just wait until we see a ladder match at Summerslam.

I think they could build it up, if they would have Jericho bring up more of the past Shawn did. But I do realize that a lot of the "past" that HBK did, would only be pertinent to fans who are old enough to remember when he lost his smile.
They should give Jericho a mean streak. Instead of winning, he should be hurting guys. Kind of like how Orton became the "legend killer", have Jericho be the "jobber killer" (although don't make it so he beats up 12 Brooklyn Brawlers). Have him cut a angry interview, and instead of it being in a serious tone, like his last one was (which in real life is good, but in wrestling, you need to be pissed off), have it be in a bad *** tone.
The problem with that though is whether or not Jericho can do it. Would he be like Bret Hart was when he gave "angry Canadian" rant. It just came off silly like a Canadian trying to talk aboot why da Edmuntun Oylers were da best team ever, eh?
He needs to avoid being like AC Slater on that famous episode of Saved by the bell when he tried to do the sports broadcasting on the station that Bayside had.
He needs to come off natural. And pissed. And when Shawn tries to fight back (both verbally, and physically) have Jericho, in essence, no sell it. So have him be so pissed that even a superkick won't knock him out, etc.
They need to change how HBK presents himself too. He's no longer the "sexy boy" (boy, is there anyone who needs to change his theme song more than HBK?), and unless they fix that weird cross eye look HBK has, they should try to avoid making him look serious in the ring. Maybe thats why they "broke his eye socket".

Yeah, because when they went at it 5-6 years ago he (meaning Jericho) was going after people like Stacy Keibler, and doing damage to them, which was really getting Jericho's heel character over. He got such a huge, heel reaction every time he used to come out around that time period.
I see your point. Even back then, when he was supoosed to be giving a serious, down to the point interview, it always used to come off as somewhat of a joke. Well, at least it did to me. But I guess it couldn't hurt to give a try, because if he can get that down, this could probably be one of the better feuds in a good while.
We all know what Michaels will bring it to the level that you really won't have to worry about him in the slightest, but as we have said, I have questions about whether Jerciho can reach the same level that HBK will bring it up to.
He does have to come off natural, but being serious and pissed off isn't "natural" for him. A large majority of his promos throughout his career have been at attempt at mocking somebody or just trying to get his heel character over in a negative, but lauging way. He just hasn't had a huge amount of experience with trying to get a heel character over, in serious, non-laughing way.
I'm not too worried about Michaels' appearance. I guess they could shake that up a bit, but you never know how the fans are going to take to it, and if they don't take it it, that could ruin the possibilities of a great developing storyline here.
