On the day he went on the disabled list for the first time in a career full of more favorable firsts, Albert Pujols reported difficulty sleeping, occasional pain when breathing and increased soreness in his right side, Cardinals officials said Sunday.
Pujols has a tear in his right oblique muscle, and team trainer Barry Weinberg said the injury is considered severe.
"Right now, it hurts when he breathes. It hurts when he moves," Weinberg said. "He has a significant strain. He was more sore (Sunday) than Saturday. He still has some limited mobility and pain against resistance. Now, we just go through the stages of repairing it."
