Re: 2008-2009 Pre-Season Predictions?

1. Vermont (Gotta be a homer when they have a decent shot of being good)
2. Hartford (Love their coach, playing style, and players they have returning)
3. BU (Lots of talent)
4. UMBC (Greene is awesome, Proctor also very good. I like Fry for some reason.)
5. Binghamton (should have some good talent, wonder how well they'll play together and if they are all on the team and eligible...)
6. UNH (still not sold, I like Gibbs and Abreu, Conley should be good as well)
7. Albany (Connelly is solid, Ambrose has some talent. Lots of pressure on the new comers)
8. Maine (bleh...Socoby is a decent player...)
9. Stony Brook (they are always terrible)

Re: 2008-2009 Pre-Season Predictions?

I'm assuming these are the "unofficial" predictions -- with the "official" predictions coming closer to opening day. I don't think we calculated the winner last year, but I'd be surprised if my picks weren't near the top. (Which can only mean that this season my picks will return to their rightful place on the scrapheap).

1. Hartford
2. Vermont
3. UMBC
4. Binghamton
5. UNH
6. Boston
7. Albany
8. Maine
9. Stony Brook

Re: 2008-2009 Pre-Season Predictions?

I figured I'd give it a stab......

1-Vermont
2-BUMA
3-Hartford
4-UMBC
5-Albany
6-BUNY
7-UNH
8-Maine
9-SBU

I thought long and hard where to put UA and couldn't help but think....last year we were supposed to be terrible after losing Jamar and Jason and we tied for second. I haven't seen any of the new guys but I do know that Coach Brown thinks we have a chance to compete. I can see us high as 4 or even 3rd. I know that might be laughable or get me ridiculed on here but time will tell. I guess hope dies last...until then I'm gonna stay optimistic.

It would be interesting to dig out the predictions from last year. Does anyone have them?

Aside from being an obvious homer, every year Dan Leibovitz seems to get more out of his team than anyone expects. After a second place finish last year, I'm hoping this is the year Hartford finally makes it to the NCAAs. He has a very solid returning core with Zeglinski, Von Rosenberg, Turner and Sabia. If the big freshmen Genesis Maciel (6'9" ROY Hartford Pro-Am) and Malcom Cambell (6'9") can contribute immediately, Hartford can be very tough. Hartford will be stacked at guard with freshmen guard Drake Uu (6'5") who is supposedly the best player this staff has brought into the program and Charles White joining the returning core. Hartford should be very deep this year with guys fighting for minutes. I don't think Vermont or BU go as deep as Hartford does this year.

If Hartford's big men don't contribute immediately... especially with rebounding help... Vermont or Boston wins it. After last year, Dan Liebovitz must have nightmares about Marques Blakely and John Holland. Lots of talent on Binghamton and if they gel, I think they are a top 4 team.
