Campus dining has become such an important selling point for colleges that companies like Sodexo must improve. I hope UVM looks at Bon Appetite
Management Co. for their next campus food bid, they are light years ahead of Sodexo, Aramark and others.
As far as events go, they are probably more of a pain in the butt for Sodexo and they really don;t give a crap.

Campus food was pretty not good when I was at UVM, think consensus was Christie/Wright/Patterson had the best cafeteria food though I couldn't really tell the difference, the Weathervane in L&L was a hidden gem that made really great sandwiches nobody really knew about (is that around anymore?) , and then Billings cafeteria on main campus, which I don't even know if that exists now with Dudley Center. Harris/Millis cafeteria was affectionately called "Scare us/Kill us".

Unless you belong to a high-end country club, mass produced dining food is never going to be very good. That's just facts.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

It was a long time ago. but I always thought Uvm dining hall food was pretty good. I never understood the complaining from other students. My only problem was buying enough points to make it through the semester. More recently I went on college visits with my son - the bar has definitely been raised. Today's students are eating very well. I'm not sure what people are expecting for arena food. I'm thinking hot dogs, popcorn and soda. To me keeping prices reasonable is more important than great quality or selection.

There is a Skinny Pancake cafe in L&L now. It looks good and the other SP spots are good, but I haven't eaten there.

At 17-19 I'd eat a plate of dirt back then if you put it in front of me, IDGAF, but once I moved off campus I never ate on campus again, that's for sure. Food was so bland and everything tasted the same.

Unless you guys are about to segue gracefully to talking about pizza, you've taken this thread way off topic.

We have a thread for discussing pizza already. It also doubles as the Stony Brook basketball thread.

So uh, what's the deal on construction of this beast? There hasn't been a word on the matter since the announcement of the big donation. They said early 2019. Does anyone have any guesses or speculation?

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

The state is now freaking out (in the Act 250 process) that there will be over 7,000 at the new events center/Gutterson simultaneously creating "environmental and quality of life concerns"....even though the Gut and Patrick often have simultaneous events currently....and the capacity is not being increased.

Ugh....Vermont. This shit is why we all voted for Phil Scott. Fix this nonsense.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

98% of Act 250 applications going through the process are approved. It makes complete sense to understand how the new facility will effect traffic patterns and to see how either the project or road or traffic modifications can make the project more successful.

Maybe a few more people will stay to the end of the games.

Act 250 has stopped a few truly awful projects but that won't be the case here.

Hopefully they can figure out a new traffic situation there. The jug handle is terrible. Maybe a roundabout?

If I'm interpreting this correctly...this shouldn't be an issue, because I don't see a time when both facilities are going to do max (or close to max) capacity events at the same time. Like, they're never going to have a men's hockey game and a men's basketball game at the same time. There's a finite number of people: people to attend, people to staff the events, etc. Multiple events in the same day, sure. But more likely spread out throughout the day.
