There's a finite number of people: people to attend, people to staff the events, etc. Multiple events in the same day, sure. But more likely spread out throughout the day.
yeah there's been a few cases of a men's bball game at 2 and a men's hockey game at 7, or WBB at 4 and women's hockey at 7. They'll never run MBB and men's hockey concurrently because it's sales suicide

Act 250 has stopped a few truly awful projects but that won't be the case here.
I have zero doubt that the project will eventually get approved. The problem with Act 250 is it can just draw out the permitting process for eternity. Time costs money. And money is not an infinite resource for developers. So while projects are largely "approved" Act 250 still has the ability to kill off projects by dragging out for such a long time that the project ultimately becomes infeasible.

I'm gladly willing to compromise a few corn fields for faster, more streamlined environmental permitting.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

I highly doubt the University is pushing hard to get shovels in the ground in February or March. The cost of construction is more expensive in the winter. You have the basketball and hockey teams in full swing and you don't want to disrupt parking during this stretch anyway. Realistically we most likely wont see any action until May when the spring sports are through. Hopefully everything will be squared away by then and they can get a good summer of foundation work done.

Congrats on the season guys! Another great year in Catamount Country.

Looking on the “anrweb.vt.gov” site, it looks like the state has now listed a “Permit Agenda Date” of 3/15/19 on the site. Not sure if that means all permits have been completed, but I know that had not been entered before.

Also on the AE Championship ESPN telecast it looks like they released more architechual renderings of the locker room. Does anyone have access to more photos of the arena setup?

Ya, the University received all the permits they need--both County/State and City--at the beginning of the month.

Just waiting to see when they get a shovel in the ground! Hopefully there will be some excavators out there by late-April. Not sure the status of the bids or who the GC is though.

The project is approved. Any word on when groundbreaking will begin?

I coach a team that practices at UVM, and was told that parking may become difficult around may due to the new construction. So if I had to take a wild guess I would say that is when they're aiming to start everything...

Ugh....Vermont. This shit is why we all voted for Phil Scott. Fix this nonsense.

Maybe you can dial back the Act 250 hysteria now.

Re: UVM New Arena Thread

Lol no, Act 250 added months to this project and probably millions in permitting fees. UVM needed to hire consultants for environmental assessments, wastewater consulting, lawyers.....etc, etc. In addition to the $450k fee they paid for the permit. It adds millions in cost (and time) in so many ways. So much unneeded bureaucratic waste and unnecessary regulatory burdens.

I’ve had a lot of indirect experience with Act 250. The law is a national embarrassment and nothing short of economic suicide. It says loud and clear “hey developers and job-creators, go to New Hampshire. Vermont doesn’t want you.”

Maine and Vermont are the best neighbors the Granite State could ever have.

Act 250 may slow down economic growth but it also means we have very few development projects in the state that are rushed, poorly designed, and compromises the environment and natural beauty of the state.

Maybe it is time to dial back Act 250 talk, anyway. I'm excited about the new arena, but I would rather not debate the politics re Act 250.
