Re: 2019 America East Recruiting Thread

Notice a lot of these higher caliber players are also from Maryland. When I was in school and a few years after I finished, local kids wanted nothing to do with UMBC. Even when they won the 2008 championship, it was still a hard sell for players in public school, let alone the MIAA and WCAC. Yeah, a few signees came from nearby, but even interest was low compared to other schools.

Hopefully, students and nearby alumni can be more engaged to go to games (it really is now or never), because that definitely won't hurt in recruiting, either.

Definitely a solid list. At surface looks like playing at A10-level or higher is his goal. I am surprised, given how much time UVM spent recruiting him, that UVM is not in the Top 7. Seems like would have been a great fit as well in terms of skillset/what team needs in 2019.

Looking at the recruits UVM has offered on Verbal Commits, a lot of these kids have multiple offers and some from high major schools already. For reasons like: Following the recent AAU season Daniel Buie picked up a lot of interests from colleges when before it was only Siena and UVM that offered him.

I think the coaching staff for UVM has their work cut out for them selling these kids over some of the other schools listed to come to Burlington, VT and play in their high school gymnasium for hopefully only 3 more years tops.

I think the programs continuous success, and this last years graduating class showing that when you come to UVM you can set yourself up afterwards to go play pro ball and still earn a comfortable paycheck. But the biggest thing up in the air right now is obviously our facilities when these kids come visit as we have mentioned in the past.

I can’t wait to see what John Becker and his staff can reel in for talent once the new basketball gym is built and the health and wellness center is established for the university.

I’m not saying Becker hasnt done a wonderful job in the past when it came to recruiting battles, Becker and his staff got Lamb over schools like University of Buffalo, he reeled in Kpedi and Nash that had over 10 offers. He landed Ryan Davis this year who had close to 15 offers if not more. So I’m very impressed on what he and his staff have accomplished so far but I can’t wait to see what he can do when he brings future recruits in for visits and they see a brand new basketball stadium and workout facilities on campus. THAT HAS TO HELP A LITTLE!

Got intel by someone very close to UVM basketball as we met up by mutual friends Downtown last night and we had a good talk about this years team and the recruits that are offered. This post will be copied and put in the 2018-19 UVM Season thread too. Major points that he said is this is the best freshman class under coach Becker and he said don’t be surprised if 3 of the freshman are starting by mid season. I’m assuming he means, Robin, Isaiah, and Ryan. Also he said one recruit to watch out for who has a ton of offers is Ray J Dennis. He already came on an unofficial visit and he loved scrimmaging with the team. He also said he’s confident and trusts Ray J and he told the UVM staff it is down to them and Boise State. I asked him about Daniel Buie who I really liked and he said that we most likely lost him. He hasn’t showed much interest in UVM in awhile and has recieved bigger offers since. That’s a bummer but I guess we will see what happens.

He marveled about Ryan Davis and talked about how UVM needed someone with his size. Also mentioned Isaiah multiple times as he had to say that he is one of the strongest and most athletic kids on the team, and as a freshman has a very high IQ of the game.

Thought I would share this with you guys as I was ecstatic to hear this stuff.

This intel sounds like it checks out pretty good: Dennis visited Boise State over the weekend and has other officials set for UVM, Toledo, and Cleveland State:

Thanks for the supporting evidence! Sounds like we have a good chance to land this kid!

Re: 2019 America East Recruiting Thread

Vermont Academy guard Tyler Bertram commits to Charlotte...AND reclassifies to 2018. Will play there this year.

Someone on some other thread asked "How late can you recruit a kid for the upcoming season?" The answer: at least until September 4th.

He's enrolling immediately, but he's supposed to redshirt this year according to some of the tweets I've seen.

That's a bummer. Tough blow. Wish he would have taken his official visit here, but maybe it wouldn't have mattered as Boise State has a lot to offer and a pretty attractive situation- specifically is in the Mountain West Conference.

Idaho is a stunning place too. Not a bad area to spend four years.

Re: 2019 America East Recruiting Thread

Not really following the recruiting like I used to, but the top two on my board were Bertram and Dennis. Looks like Yoder is scheduled to take an official visit, so that is good- anyone else aware of others?

There's a couple of players on VC site that have blown up and are no longer realistic.
